| From The Governor's Desk! For some time I have been pondering my future Leadership role in Lionism, considering whether this should be my last year since I am serving as District Governor for the second time and ol' man age is steadily stacking up the years. I have finally reached a decision as to what my next endeavor would be and since Amanda did not scream and yell too loudly, I assume that I have her quasi appoval. Over the last three years, I have served as Secretary to the North Carolina Lions Foundation, and in that capacity, I have developed a good understanding and appreciation of what the NCLF is all about as well as an appreciation of the current and future goals and needs of the Foundation. Because of this, I have decieded to place my name in nomination as a candidate for the position of Second Vice President of the North Carolina Lions Foundation. I have notified the State Nominations Chairman of these intentions and am now ready to strive for that position. I felt that I should let you, the Lions of my District, be the first to recieve the official announcement. There are two other candidates that have announced for this position, PDG Robert Sawtell of District 31-J and PDG Carlton Metts of District 31-H. District 31-D has not had a NCLF President since PDG John Howell was elected to President in the mid 1980's. Since then, counting the current 2 VP, 1 VP and President, District A has had one (1), District B three (3), District C one (1), District E five (5), District F three (3), District G one (1), District H three (3), and District J three (3). Too, I don't recognize any NCLF President from District D prior to John Howell. How is it that the largest district in Multiple 31 (up until this year) has had only one President of our state organization since its inception, or at least names that I can recognize? I think it is time for us to step foward and be recognized, I know that I am quailifed and I hope that I will receive the support from all my District as I attempt to be your representative on the Executive Committee for the first three (3) years, culminatingas President in the year 2005. We don't know at this time where the NCLF Annual Meeting will be next May 4, 2003, however, I hope that each club Secretary will respond to the NCLF next spring by sending the names of the elected, qualified delegates that each club can send to the Annual Metting and place their votes for me. Also, since our State Convention this year will be held in March, the drawing for the Camp Dogwood raffle will be at this May meeting, allowing us an additional 1 1/2 months to sell raffle tickets. My motto is"HONORED TO SERVE". That stands true this year and it will be true if elected to be the Second VP of the NCLF next May. Thanks for your support! |
