A Positive Outlook on Portland

The Oregonian has an article in today's issue that looks at the events of the exhibition game played at the Rose Garden last night, and then has some commentary from league officials on how they view Portland as a potential NHl market.

Odds are that nothing will happen until the NHL and its players settle on a new collective bargaining agreement. But when they do, Phoenix senior executive vice president of hockey operations Cliff Fletcher said Portland could be first in line to land a team.

"Traditionally, Portland has demonstrated that it's a pretty good hockey town," Fletcher said. "And in view of the success they've had in the NBA, it would be logical that Portland would be the primary consideration if and when there would be another expansion, or if a team is looking to move."
