THE FORBIDDEN CITY
aka The Palace Museum
A truly amazing site...pictures don't do it justice.  The expanse I felt here is hard to describe.  But the preservation is evident.  Can't you just feel the grandeur of the emperor at the top of the middle staircase and his subjects bowing in respect all over the foreground.  Or Chairman Mao previewing troops (although that didn't happen here; that happened from atop Tiananmen Gate).
500 years ago, this view would have meant instant death for a lowly commoner such as me.  But, at today's prices, it only cost me Y40 (40 Yuan - $5).  Gotta love the local economy.
This silent guardian is keeping vigil over the main entrance to the inner city.  He stands with his female counterpart across the stairway guarding Inner Palace gate.
