| Chapter One |
| "...Now I'm dyin' in this hell..." It's been three long years, I missed her, I wanted her, I HAD to have her. I have been through girlfriend after girlfriend, after girlfriend, but none of them held a candle to Shaye. Shaye Marie Smith, my one TRUE love. But I blew it, all the plans we had together, seemed to come with everything, all the girlfriends I had, wanted the same thing, a little house, with a porch, a dog, and kids, running all over the place. It just didn't seem right with anyone but Shaye. I sighed, maybe she was still in Tennessee?! I hurried and called for the next plane to leave, and packed my stuff, I had totally forgot to call and ask my Dad, course, my Dad was long distance. I'd go see him, he'd tell me what was going on, we were on a break from collage, so it should have been okay. I got to Millington, all the memories had flooded back to me, it was weird how they all lasted, as different as Millington was now. I sighed and headed to my Daddy's, I walked past her old house, a FOR SALE sign was on the door, it was beat up and falling apart. I walked down the beaten path, to the river, where we shared our first kiss, and where we split up, for good. I sighed and leaned against the tree, tears streaming down my face. I walked to where her Dad always plowed, I stood on the steep hill, the fields were grown over, you could tell they hadn't seen a plow in awhile. I had to go somewhere happy, I glanced at my watch and walked to my Daddy's, knocking on his door. "JUSTIN!" He wrapped his arms around me and squeezed, "How are you?!" "Hi, Daddy," "How's Collage?" "Okay I guess, I'm passing," "That's great! How's you Mom and Paul?" "Pretty good, on vacation," I smiled. "Well, have you heard anything from Shaye?" "Daddy, it's been three years, I just now got the courage to come back here," "Well, I know what's goin' on, c'mon, let's talk," We walked to the kitchen, he cut me a piece of pie that my Step mom had made, it wasn't like Shaye's, course, nothing was. "What's going on with her Daddy? Her house is being sold?" "Well, she didn't have a choice, Isabella died durnin childbirth, she's been gone two and a half years," "Isabella is dead?" "Yeah, she bleed to death," "What about the baby?" "She died too," "Oh my gosh, what about John and Shaye?" "Well, John had a nervous breakdown and ended up in a mental home, where he soon passed away," "John too?" I was really starting to get scared, what about her? "Yes, it was bad," "Daddy, what about Shaye?" "Last I heard, she was working in a diner as a waitress, trying to pay of collage, and raising Benjamin and her three year old daughter," My fork clanged to my plate. "Three year old?!" "Yeah," "Daddy, that three year old, is mine," "Huh?" "Daddy, when I came here for Thanksgiving, that one year, things happened, between me and Shaye," "You mean, I have a grand baby?" I nodded, "I have to find her Daddy, do you know what diner?" "I'm not sure, I got a letter from her a couple years ago," "She didn't write me at all?" "Well, she told me that, you and her went through a nasty break-up," "Yeah, you could say that," "What happened Son," "Daddy, it's all my fault, everything is..." |
