July 19 continued

So.... About an hour after that, Megan called again (meanwhile two of my other friends Shawna and Terri and their kids came by)  She asked if Nick was home and i said "no" and she asked if I was alone and I said "no, I have friends here with me" and she said " do you want me to tell you?" and I said "OF COURSE!!"  And she simply said "They picked you guys!"  There were tears, screaming and laughter!  None of us could believe it!  I called Nick right away and told him the news!!  Boy was he ecstatic!  My next step was to call the kids social worker and talk with her about our first visit.  She was super nice and asked when if we could meet the kids the next day.  I didn't think Nick would be able to get off work with that short of notice but he did.  That night, we rushed around and bought them gifts and got a photo album of our family to take to them.  We got to call their foster parents Terry and Rhonda and asked them every question under the sun.  We were thrilled to know that they had been in a christian foster home and knew about Jesus and God.  They were both so helpful and patient with us.  Surprisingly to us, we spoke to our children that evening.  They only talked for a few minutes but hearing their little voices was indescribable!  I prayed for sleep and I got it!  Brooke stayed the night with my friend Shawna that night as she was in the summer musical and didn't finish until really late each night.  We said prayers for our new children and talked about them and told our families and friends our wonderful news.

July 20, 2004 THE BIG DAY!

We woke up early and picked Brooke up and headed out.  It was a long drive.  My stomach was in knots and I felt sick the whole way down.  I was asking myself questins like "would they like me?"  "would they adjust to all of us?" and many more.  We went to thier social workers office first and were able to read their "files" basically medical, school reports and information about their birth families.  Then it was time to go meet them.  We pulled up and were relieved that they already live in the country.  Their foster dad answered the door and there stood Brendan right by his side and very curious.  He talked to us right away.  Brooke and I went right away to Brendan and there sat Tori at the table, still eating her lunch. Nick went to her and she was acting shy.  It was a bittersweet moment but it was awkward.  I felt like everyone was staring at me.  I wanted to cry several times at the awe of it all but I held back.  We were able to meet the entire foster family and spend a few hours playing with the kids.  We took lots of pictures and they seemed to take to all 3 of us right away.  The next step was an overnight visit and we decided that they would stay overnight that coming Saturday the 24th.  It was difficult to say goodbye but we knew we would see them soon and we also knew that they were very loved at their foster home.
