Speaker's Bureau.



The Old Lead Region Historical Society maintains a "Speaker's Bureau"-- a list of speakers that are available to offer programs on a wide variety of historical, social, political, and military-oriented topics. Some of these topics include:

Lead Mining and the U. S. Mineral District 'Prairie Springs Hotel,' located five miles south of Mineral Point. The 1833 hotel was built and occupied by Daniel Morgan Parkinson and his family. It is one of the three oldest buildings in Wisconsin.

Native Indian/American Relations

Historic Persons
(Topics could cover some or many of the persons of interest during the Lead Rush: Dubuque, Shull, Dodge, Gratiot, Berry, Parkinson, Jones, Bracken, etc.)

Historic Places
(Topics could cover some or many of the settlements of importance in the region: Galena, Mineral Point, New Diggings, Shullsburg, Platteville, etc.)

Winnebago War (1827) or "Red Bird's Rising"

Black Hawk's War (1832)

Jacksonian America (material culture, clothing, daily living)

Topics and subject matter can be tailored to suit the interests and needs of your classroom, historical group, civic or social club, or church organization.

Our Society members have provided talks, lectures, and instructional seminars to a wide variety of organizations, including:

Elementary and middle school Social Studies classes;
Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site;
Apple River State Historic Site;
Fort Atkinson Historical Society;
Fort Atkinson "Friends of the Library";
Garfield Farm and Museum;
Mid-west Open Air Museum Coordinating Council
Company of Military Historians.
