One Gene: One Child-- Hope Intervention Outreach

In industrialized countries, one SPED teacher is in-charge of one special child. In Hope Intervention Center, the first and ONLY public autistic school in the Philippines, 9 teachers take care of 47 special children. Most of them are diagnosed with autism while some with Downs syndrome, mental retardation and cerebral palsy. The UPLB Genetics Society designed One Gene: One Child to have a member, a gene, reach out to one child.

Objectives

* To have each member, a gene, reach out to one special child;

* To expose the members of the society to a totally different environment of the autistic;

* To give donations and attention to Hope Intervention Center, the first and only public autistic school in the Philippines;

* To promote and create awareness about autism and Hope Intervention Center; and

* To encourage agencies, institutions and individuals to give donations and support to Hope Intervention Center and its public library.

Booking Hope

Adjacent to the Center is the Hope Intervention Public Library. Donated by Calamba Doctors Hospital. The library is open to the public but intends to hold mainly Children's Literature and Autism Literature. GeneSoc is currently helping this institution by promoting awareness about Hope Intervention and asking for generous donations.
