If you are interested in joining
our mailing list, please read the FAQ below and follow the instructions for
joining. We hope to hear from you soon!

Questions:
1. What is the Organa-zation?
2. Who can join?
3. What are the rules of the list?
4. How can I join?
5. Can I send fanfic to the list?
6. Can I submit fanfiction to the page?
7. Can I chat in real time with other Organa-zation members?
1. Q. What is the Organa-zation?
A. The Organa-zation is a mailing list comprised
of Star Wars fans that are particularly fond of the character of Princess Leia Organa
Solo (although other fans are quite welcome as well!). We exist to talk about,
debate, and correct how our favorite character has been handled in the official
and unofficial Star Wars universe. We are founded on the basis that this
is basically a congenial, civilized, informal discussion amongst friends, and
that no one's opinions matter more than anyone else's. If you're looking for
a free-for-all, you've come to the wrong place; try RASSM.
2. Q. Who can join?
A. Anybody who's looking for someplace more sane
than RASSM and can follow the rules below (see no. 3). But be warned: this
list is geared toward adults. That means that adult subjects (read: sex) will be
tolerated; even expected. So, if you're a teen, or are particularly sensitive to
that kind of material, we're more than glad to have your input, but know that
this kind of stuff is coming. If it's illegal for you to be reading this where
you live, or you're going to get in big trouble if your parents find out, maybe
this list isn't for you. (Not that sex is the only thing we talk about, but
it does come up, and the administrator of this list feels that a forum is needed
where it can be discussed openly, and has decided that this is it.) In any
case, you've been warned. :)
3. Q. What are the rules of the list?
A. The rules of the list are basically the rules
of common curtesy; this is a civilized list; let's act civilized. But, for
the sake of clarity, I'll be more specific.
- NO FLAMING. No flaming of anybody
(that includes other list members, profic authors, your mother, the president,
anybody!) will be tolerated. If you are repeatedly caught flaming, you will
be removed from the list at the administrator's discretion (don't get too
scared; we're pretty forgiving around here!). To clarify: Flaming is an attack
on a person, instead of debating an idea. Acceptable: "I don't agree with that
because..." Unacceptable: "You stupid piece of worm ridden filth! How could
you possibly think that?"
- NO FOUL LANGUAGE. Okay, this is a
mature list, so the occasional dropped hell or damn will be tolerated, but
let's try and keep it clean otherwise, shall we? Be creative; use other terms
instead. Makes it more interesting anyway. :) This also applies to discussions
of a sexual nature; let's discuss them in a mature way, using correct and/or
polite terms. Let's put it this way: if you can't say it on prime time TV,
you really shouldn't say it here.
- NO ONE LINE MESSAGES. Let's not clog
up the bandwidth with a whole bunch of messages that only say something like
"ROTFL!!" or "Exactly what I was thinking!" There's no point to it; it just
fills up mailboxes with stuff most people don't want or need to read anyway.
Also, if somebody's looking for beta testers for a fanfic, for example, please
send the reply just to that person, not to the entire list (just a note: watch
what your email program puts in your to: field when you hit reply; different
programs may do different things). That goes for the "ROTFL" type messages
as well; if you really want to express how much you liked something someone
said, but don't have anything to add to it, just reply to the author of the
message. On the same hand....
- DON'T REPOST AN ENTIRE MESSAGE IN A REPLY
. Please, learn to use your cut and paste. If you feel it's necessary to
put phrases from the original post in your post, that's fine, but please don't
include the whole thing; it just eats up bandwidth and memory, and we all probably
remember the original post anyway, so we'll probably just skim over it, causing
your remarks to be skimmed over as well.
- NO MESSAGE LIMIT. It really isn't
that big a deal if you send more than one message to the list a day. If there's
more than one topic going on, feel free to answer them all, even in seperate
messages. Just be aware that mail volume will go up and down because of this,
and if the rest of the rules are followed (especially the one about changing
subject lines), it should still be managable.
- BACK UP WHAT YOU SAY. Don't just disagree with
someone. Say why; it saves on hurt feelings. The best way is to provide evidence
from the movies, books, etc., but it's okay to just say, "I just don't agree
with you, and that's my opinon; it's a gut feeling. It's not personal." That's
fine; this list is about opinons. But as much as you can, tell us how you
formed your opinion; it'll save on confusion, and lead to polite debate, rather
than bitter chaos.
- DO NOT FORWARD SOMTHING POSTED TO THE LIST
WITHOUT THE AUTHOR'S PERMISSION. Most of the time this probably
won't be a big deal, but there have been cases on other listserves where
someone forwarded a rather scathing message that someone posted about an author
to that author without the author of the message knowing about it; the forwarder's
name not attached. Needless to say, it was never meant for the author's
eyes. If this happens, you will be removed from the list. Again, it's
just common curtesy (and the administrator covering her butt!
;)
- OFF TOPIC POSTS ARE TOLORATED.
Yes, you read it right. You can post about basically anything you want
to (within reason, of course). So if you've got a really funny joke to send
to all of us, send it! We'd love to hear it. Or if you really need
to rant about what a bad day you had, we're there for ya, babe; remember; we're
all friends here. But also remember the main reason we're here is to
talk about Star Wars, so let's keep these kinds of posts in the minority.
Also, when you do post off-topic, make sure to label your posts as such; put
OFF TOPIC or OT in the subject line.
- MIND YOUR MANNERS. Remember, we're
a civilized group. We don't want any trouble or strife within the group; we
just want to have a good time. So please, just be friendly, polite, and considerate of
other people's feelings. Remember the golden rule: do onto others as you would
have done onto you. That's how we operate here. :)
- LABEL YOUR POSTS. That doesn't only
mean put a subject on your message (although that helps!), but if you're sending
something that someone may find offensive (if you don't want your 10 year
old reading it, for example), by all means, send it, but put something before
it that something about the content. Something like: "DISCLAIMER: This story
contains sexual situations" is good enough.
- CHANGE YOUR SUBJECT FIELD. Okay, okay, I
know how easy it is to just hit reply to a message, and then go off on a tangent
that has little or nothing to do with the subject that's in the subject field.
But, there are some people who have limited access and/or have to pay per-minute
fees. And from time to time, we all have problems with our email. For the
sake of those people, subject your posts correctly so they have the option
of deleting a post unread if it's not about something s/he wants to read about.
Stated another way: if you change the subject of a message when replying to
it, either add to or change the subject field in your headings.
4. Q. How can I join?
A. Joining's easy, and you have three options:
separate, digest and web only. In seperate mode, you get every post
as a seperate message, and therefore will have lots of messages in your mailbox
everyday. In digest mode, you are only sent one message a day that has
all the posts for the day in it. This is good if you get email from a
lot of other sources as well. Just know that that one message will probably
be very loooong. :) In web only mode, you have to log onto Yahoo!
to read the posts.
In any case, you can always go to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Organa-Zation and follow the directions there
or send a blank message to
Organa-Zation-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. The default is seperate mode.
If you wish to recieve digests or be listed as web only, you'll have to go
to the above address and access your account to change your settings.
In any case, you'll be sent a welcome message
with this FAQ and a get-to-know-you form included. To post to the list, address
your messages to Organa-Zation@yahoogroups.com
.
OR
You can subscribe right here! Just put your email address
in the blank and hit the button. You'll be taken to a page where you can fill
in your options.
To unsubscribe (now why would anyone want to
do that?),send a message to
Organa-Zation-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com.
If you have any questions, send a message to
Lelila.
PLEASE NOTE: As a proactive measure to
keep our mail server up and running smoothly, we reserve the right to unsubscribe
you without warning if we recieve numerous error messages from your email
address and we cannot reach you. We will try our best to reach you first,
and you may of course resubscribe once your server problems have cleared up.
The biggest cause of these errors is a full mailbox, so it is in your best
interest to empty it on a regular basis.
5. Q. Can I send fanfic to the list?
A. YES!! We thrive on fanfic here! It doesn't
even have to be Leia fanfic (although that helps!). No need to ask if we want
to see it; just send it. There are limits, however. While steamy posts are
quite acceptable (labled of course; see q. 4), outright pornography is not.
To be more specific: a story has to have a point other than just the main characters
"getting it on" as it were. The point doesn't really have to be anything more
than exploring the minds and personalities of the characters. That's a subtle
business, no doubt, but if you have any questions, peruse the stories on our
page, or send Lelilaa copy of your
story for pre-approval. Just to be clear: my definition of pornography means
that the story treats the characters as nothing so much as a bunch of body
parts for the satisfaction of the other character(s). Exploring the emotions
of the characters really is the dividing line between pornography and just
a really steamy piece of fanfic. Language is another hallmark of porn vs.
fanfic. Porn is usually littered with slang, off-color terms for body parts
and sex acts. Good fanfic will be somewhat poetic; at least, polite.
Below is a link to a (very good) story that is borderline acceptible;
anything more explicit than this is not (Disclaimer: sexual situations!):

6. Q. Can I submit fanfiction to the page?
A. Of course! Content guidlines are the same as
for submitting things to the list. Here's what you have to do to get your
story ready:
- Write your story and edit it till you think
it's perfect (or you get sick of messing with it, which ever comes first).
Always spell check it and have somebody else proof read it (that's what the
list is for!). Make sure you include some kind of disclaimer (these characters
belong to Lucasfilm, yadda, yadda, yadda...), and any spoiler warnings or
ratings you think are necessary. When it's just the way you want, then you
can send it on to be posted by following the rest of these directions!
- The only real content restrictions are: Leia
has to be a major character, and it can't be outright porn. Steamy is good;
pornography is not. If you do write a steamy story, please label it as such.
For more information, see question 5.
- Set the width of your story in your WP program
to 65 characters a line. (It helps to set your left margin to .5 in and your
right to 3.5 in. Unless you use a weird font, that'll be just about right.)
It'll look narrow, but otherwise it'll be too wide when we put it up here.
Also, you must have a hard return (which means you have press enter or return
or whatever) at the end of every line. Believe it or not, this is actually
easier to do after the story is all written and edited, in my opinion at least.
- OR we will accept the story as an html
file. You must do all the coding yourself. The files must be fairly simple;
no frames, columns, etc. The background must be a solid, neutral color, preferably
an off-white or gray. The text should be black. Do not put any graphics
on the page. The only exception to this rule is if you have a piece of artwork
that was done specifically to illustrate the story, and that file must be
sent with the text so it can be downloaded onto our server.
- Save your story as a .txt file. This is most
important! This is the ONLY file type that all computers can read.
- Send the story to
Lelila via email as an attachment. Have your subject field say something
to the effect of "Story submission" so I knows what it is. Include some kind
of description (ex: Han and Leia have a romantic evening out). Also tell us
whether or not you want your email address used as a hotlink; the default is
that it will be.
(Acknowledgement should go to Deborah and Gator; I snitched
the above from the Fanfix submissions page.)
A note to those submitting
to fanzines: While
I think it's great that OZ members submit their stories to print 'zines,
if you're going to submit a story that is online here at the site, you need
to tell me. Most 'zine editors require that your story be exclusive
to their 'zine for a year, or until it sells out. You'll have to ask
them what their policy is. I have no problem with removing (or reposting)
stories, but it is YOUR responsibility to tell me so that the appropriate
action can be taken. It's been more than once that I've discovered
a story that was posted here has turned up in a 'zine while it was still
here. That just makes
me look bad, and the last thing I want is to be accused of not cooperating
with 'zine editors. Thank you!

7. Q. Can I chat in real time with other
Organa-zation members?
A. You bet! We have a scheduled weekly
chat every Saturday night at 8 p.m. Eastern time (that's New York time) at
the organa-zation room and on holonet IRC. You have to have
an IRC client to join us. If you don't have one, go to
Tucows for a big selection. I personally recommend mIRC and Pirch.
Once you have your IRC software up and running,
point your server to irc.holonet.org port 6667. We're in room #organa-zation.
It's hidden, so you won't see it on the list of rooms, but if you type /join
#organa-zation you'll find us.
Hope to see you there!

Well, there you have it. We hope
you enjoy our list! Please send suggestions/changes/additions to this FAQ
