  • Athletic Perfection In Jesus Christ

Our biggest obstacle in achieving athletic perfection through Jesus Christ is understanding how Christianity ties in with sports. Over the years, many scholars have studies this delicate topic. Despite of all the knowledge that we have gathered, we are still struggling to understand how to achieve perfection through Jesus Christ.

Here are some questions to ponder while thinking about how Christianity fits in with your athletic performance. If Jesus Christ was in the stand watching you play, what would He say about the following situations relating to your game?
    1. Your attitude during the game.
    2. Your attitude toward rough play.
    3. Your attitude toward the referees.
    4. Your attitude toward your fellow teammates.
    5. Your attitude toward your opponents.
    6. Your attitude after the game (win or lose).
    7. Your mental, physical, and spiritual preparation for the game.

"Whatever you do, do your work hearty as for the Lord rather than for mankind." (Colossians 3:23).
God has given each one of us special abilities, and it is a shame if we do not develop them fully and use them to glorify the Lord as He intended us to.

"The Lord works out everything for his own ends." (Proverb 16:4).

Most of us think that it is impossible for human to be perfect since we have all fallen short of God's standard. However, Matthew verse 5: 48 says,
" Be perfect in what ever you do just like our heavenly Father is Perfect." .
Do You think He (Jesus Christ) expects us to make every free throw, field goal, catch every pass, hit every pitch, etc? The perfection, which Matthew talks about in verse 5:48 deals with our attitudes before, during, and after a game. Remember, your attitude controls your thoughts and actions.

How do you Achieve Athletic Perfection though Jesus Christ?

"For God loves the world, that he gave his only Son Jesus Christ so that whoever believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal live." (John 3:16).

Through His life, Jesus Christ bridged the gap that separates us from God because of our sins. Having fellowship with Christ and believing that He is the Son of God through faith, you receive God's pressure gift to mankind; salvation (eternal life). Through salvation, you invite the Holy Spirit to come into your heart, thus allowing you to have eternal and fellowship with Jesus Christ.

Your athletic perfection through Jesus Christ begins with your attitude and fellowship with Him. Your fellowship and attitude flows out, and it is manifested in your actions on and off the playing field. This constant action is not possible without empowerment from the Holy Spirit through Christ. "The Lord has made everything for His purpose." (Proverb 16:4).

With the Holy Spirit, your main focus will be to glorify the Lord through your athletic ability. The new attitude will allow you to deal with the above situations positively.
"God expects and reward those who use their abilities wisely---- for everyone who has shall more be given, and he shall have abundance; but from one who has not, even what he does have shall be taken away." (Matthew 25:14-30; vs 29- ).

The Lord does not expect you to go out and have perfect statistics. He expects you to approach every situation with a Godly attitude. Look not to impress mankind with your effort, but glorify the Lord with your actions. Remember, your attitude shapes your character and action.
