Welcome to our site!

Ottawa Animal Advocates (OAA) represents a group of local citizens and animal lovers who believe that current levels of pain, oppression and suffering inflicted upon animals by society are not acceptable. We also believe that animals should be free to engage in the natural behaviours attributed to their species.

Most OAA members also believe that people should not exploit the earth but rather act as caretakers of the environment. We believe that because people are in largely in control of what happens to the environment and animals, that we have a moral responsibility to see to it that these things are cared for and that destruction and suffering does not occur as a result of neglect.

Although many OAA members have adopted a vegetarian/vegan diet in order to stop supporting industries that cause intense suffering to animals, OAA recognizes that animal advocates sometimes hold a range of viewpoints. We also believe that many people are not aware of the degree of animal suffering in our society. For these reasons, we do not feel that you need to support or even understand every animal rights/animal welfare issue in order to support our group and its’ efforts. All that is necessary is that you recognize that current levels of pain inflicted on animals by society is not acceptable and that you have a desire to reduce this suffering in some way.

If you are a newcomer to animal rights/animal welfare issues and would like to learn more, you may wish to consider an “animal rights 101” session which is explained in the “About Us” section of this website. You are also welcome to browse through the “Topics” section, enter “The Meatrix” though the banner to the right and/or order a free vegetarian starter kit from the banner at the bottom of this page. This kit will also explains various animal rights issues.

Enjoy your visit!
