An Introduction to Ourgang
|

The prefix “Ourgang” belongs to Annabel Wolf. The choice of prefix came from the Ourgang Series of stage plays and cartoons of Ginger Meggs. My first choice of prefix was actually Wolfgang due to my surname but was knocked back hence the Prefix Ourgang being chosen (my second choice). These days it suits as they are certainly Ours and we have a few so they are “the Gang”.
I became interested in Staffords through the purchase of my first dog in Sydney – Cloe, who was a Kelpie x Stafford. Having grown up in South West NSW on a sheep farm, I knew what the Kelpie side was like and there was no way I was going to have a work mad Kelpie in the city so I enquired into the other side of Cloe’s parentage. I did all the right things and researched into what bloodlines I wanted, put my name down on a waiting list with a couple of kennels and then rushed out & bought the first pup I saw in the ads in the Trading Post which was Sprog aka Lagoona Lady Daisy CD ET.
Sprog did not turn out to be what we had hoped so she was desexed after she was diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia (which these days is the breed average), Demodectic Mange (which she grew out of) and Juvenile Cataracts (no cataracts until she was 14). Luckily for Sprog they were wrong.
We then bought Rage (Ch Borstaff All The Rage CD) from Linda Szirer & started again. Rage was a lot more successful than Sprog in all areas & she became the foundation for Ourgang. Even now, 16 years later, Rage is the only ‘outside’ bitch I have used in my lines— everything I have traces back to her.
Ourgang was first registered in 1992 with my first litter being in 1993. Please note that where older dogs appear in pedigrees who won over 1000 points before the Grand Champion rule came in I have put (Grand) in brackets to indicate them as I believe they deserve this acknowledgement as this is the requirement for a Grand Champion title in Australia.
I have always tried to keep my dog’s minds active as much as their show side so I have always strived for excellence in temperament as a family pet as much as soundness of body and strong Stafford type. I have undertaken Obedience, Agility, Search and Rescue, Pets as Therapy, Earth Dog and Endurance Training plus anything else that I think will benefit the dogs or they will have fun with. Admittedly, I do not compete in these fields as I used to as physically, I just don’t have the time to do the training required.
I hope you enjoy the website, I have tried to put as much information as I can in about each and every dog & litter I have bred as I believe in being open about everything that I know is in my dogs lines and you can see for yourself what you like or don’t like. The website is quite extensive & I will be updating the site as further information comes to hand.
