Sea Kayaking Basic Strokes: (About 2 hours 45 minutes) Cost: $55.00
In this course, as the name implies, we will be working on teaching and improving the  basic paddling skills by working on:

The Forward Stroke, The Reverse Stroke, Sweeping (Turning) Strokes, Stopping  Strokes, Leaned Turns, basic Sculling and Bracing Strokes, Draw Strokes etc.

Towards the end of the course, we will embark on a short paddle where we will review  the skills and discuss any specific questions or needs.

Sea Kayaking Rescues & Safety: (1.5 to 2 hours)
COST: $55.00
For this course, various methods of self rescue and assisted rescues will be discussed and  practiced and there will be a talk on safety gear and procedures.
Prepare to get wet during this course. Proper clothing is essential!
` Some of the topics and skills to be covered are:

Discussion on pre-trip weather decisions, knowing your limits, preventative measures,  mandatory and recommended safety equipment, using a float plan etc.
Solo versus Group paddling, Wet Exits, Paddle float Re entry (With Stirrups if needed).
Assisted Rescue/ T-Rescue
Towards the end of the course, we will embark on a short paddle where we will review  the skills and discuss any specific questions or needs.
Appropriate clothing for the water will be required.

The Forward Stroke. Power and Efficiency! (1 Hour 45 minutes to 2 Hours)
Cost: $35.00
The Forward Stroke. Sounds simple enough but in reality, it is the stroke you use at  least 95% of the time and yet it is rarely ever taught properly!

Improve your forward stroke and learn the techniques I used when setting a speed  record for circumnavigating British Columbia's Vancouver Island, shattering the  previous record of 28 days by coming in at 23 days and 10 hours!

In this 2-hour plus course, we will take the basic forward stroke and change it into a  more effective and efficient stroke, making you both faster and more efficient in the  process. We will talk about Low Angle versus High Angle strokes, different types of  paddles such as Greenland Paddles, Euro-style paddles (those that you are likely most  familiar with and are most readily available in paddling shops) and the Wing Paddle, a  highly evolved racing and performance touring paddle.

This course is for everybody! Beginners to expert, those paddling for fitness or training  to race or prepping for an expedition. Everyone will benefit from this course. Proper  reach, torso rotation, the "Catch", the power phase, the exit…all will be covered during  this in depth course. The forward stroke is the most used and the least taught stroke in  kayaking. Learn to improve your stroke now!

Sea Kayak Rolling: (Approx. 2-hour sessions) Cost: 50.00/ person.
The Rolling Course will be down in small groups only or in private one to one clinics. Private 1 on 1 lessons done in our backyard pool.
Wetsuits and proper clothing,  including nose plugs, are recommended. Course details to be added soon.
Rolling Sessions are over for 2008 amd will resume in Spring of 2009 and will be conducted on Lake Superior for groups of 3 or more people at a time.

Modern Canoeing Basic Strokes: (2-3 hours)
Cost: $55.00/ Solo or $90.00 Tandem
These canoeing courses, perfromed on flatwater, will focus on the modern style of canoeing and the emphasis will be on efficient  paddling strokes, the use of the bent shaft canoe paddle and proper outfiiting of the canoe for cruising, tripping and/ or racing. Ne straight shaft canoe paddles will be used in these courses and participants will paddle from a sitting position as opposed to "kneeling".
I'll be posting an article soon on modern canoe outfitting and design.O'Blenis bent shaft canoe paddles will be available soon as well.

More information on the individual courses will be added shortly as well as tentative dates and prices. Email me at
