| A mid 17th Century Dutch yacht. Boats like this were built for pleasure for wealthy merchants, city corporations and states. The Dutch were the first to build pleasure crafts, and vessels like these were status symbols at the height of Dutch prosperity. The "Staten Jacht" had a very shallow draft to enable it to sail on inland waterways and was fitted with retractable side boards, which were used as a keel as required. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
