Fundraising
Funding Background
-The Cub Scout Program at Leonard is Self-Funded (i.e., No Outside Source of Funds)
-The Pack Pays for 98% of its Outside Goods & Services (Some Napkins and Cups are        Donated)
-The Pack Pays for Nearly all ‘Regular’ Program Costs – Awards, Camping, Most              Project Materials, Official Forms
·-Annual Cost is Approximately $150 per Cub Scout – Does Not Include Uniforms, Special Programs / Field Trips, or Cost of Family Members Attending Scouting Events

Fundraising History
· Years Ago (pre-1990), Pack 1703 Ran on a Pay-As-You-Go Basis (i.e., Cub Scouts           Charged Separately for Every Cost and Activity)
          - Became an Accounting Nightmare
          - Allowed Too Much Opting Out
· Single Fundraiser Strategy Established – Holiday Wreath Sale
          - Pack 1703 Had a Monopoly on the Holiday Wreath Market –
             High Sales / High Margins
          - Flashy Sales Incentives (e.g., Bikes, Boom Boxes, Sports Equipment, Computer                 Games, Gift Certificates) Spurred Sales – 5-10 Cub Scouts Selling Over 40                       Wreaths Each; Some Sold Over 100 Wreaths Each
          - Times Were Good !!!!!!

Fundraising in Today’s Environment
· Wreath Sale is No Longer a Monopoly – Our Top Selling Cub Scouts Crossed Over to       Boy Scouts and Muscled In on Our Market; Even Nino Salvaggio Sells Them for a            Profit and has Undercut Our Prices A Couple of Years Ago.
· Declining Wreath Sales and Higher Costs Have Squeezed Our Profit
· Growing Attitude Among Families That Sales Incentives Induced Too Much Pressure on   Cub Scouts and / or Were Losing Their Motivational Impact
· Families Inundated With Fundraising Challenges – Gift Wrap, Pizza Kits, Market Day,         etc.
· Evolving Family Lifestyles Leave Little Time for Fundraising (i.e., Travel Sports, After-     School & Evening Enrichment Activities Have Increased Dramatically in the Past Few        Years)
· Fundraising Planning Accounted for up to 40% of Pack Committee Time

Funding – Bottom Line

· Pack 1703 is Attempting to Move Toward a Flat Fee of $135 per Scout ($220 for Two      Boys).
· Families Will Still Have the Option of Participating in Fundraisers.
· For the Wreath Sale, the Pack has a 12 Wreath Minimum (22 for Two Boys in Pack) –      Sliding Scale Buyout Will Be in Effect
? If families find they are unable to sell their required minimum, they must remit $10             per wreath below the minimum plus $15 in addition to the revenue for the wreaths             sold.  For example, if you sell only 2 wreaths, you also owe $145 [10 x $10 +                   $15 + $30 for the two wreaths sold]
· Supplemental Popcorn Sale at Kroger and Trevarrow; Scouts Will Receive Earnings           Credit Based on Proceeds and Total Hours Worked
· Each Family Must Either Participate in Fundraisers or Pay Flat Fee
