WOW... you made it to Webelos, congratulations! For boys who are at least 8 years of age or in the 4th grade, prepare to begin an exciting trip on your journey towards Boy Scouting. From the moment you become a Webelos Scout, you have your choice of wearing your blue uniform from Cub Scouting, or the tan and green uniform that you will carry with you into Boy Scouting. (Most boys prefer to show their rank with the transition to the tan & khaki) Will you Be a LOyal Scout? I'm sure you will... |
If we didn't wear you out in 3 years of Tiger, Wolf and Bear Cub Scouting, we just might in the Webelos program What is there to do as a Webelos Scout? How about earning 20 activity badges, the Webelos badge, the Compass Point badge, individual Compass Points and then on to the highest award in Cub Scouts... the Arrow of Light! Oh, did I forget to mention that you can still obtain awards through the Academics and Sports program, Religious Emblems and the Cub Scout World Conservation Award? Bored? I doubt it! |

The Clan MacLaren Tartan
In 1919, DeBois MacLaren donated Gilwell Park, on the edge of the Epping Forest, to Scouting so that Scouters (adult leaders) would have a place to go in order to become properly trained. In tribure of this tremendous support for Scouting, Webelos Scouts and adult leaders who attend Wood Badge training wear the MacLaren Tartan on their neckerchiefs. If you'll notice the colors, they are blue and yellow (Cub Scouts) and red and green (Boy Scouts). There is a lot of symbolism in Scouting, and this is just one more example. Can you name some others? Having trouble?... think Jungle Book and American Native Americans. |
THE PATROL METHOD
As soon as boys are Webelos Scouts, they stop acting like a Den (led by adults) and begin to take the steps towards functioning as a Patrol (led by the boys themselves) as is the BOY SCOUT way. The Patrol elects their own leader who begins to take over some of the responsibilities of the adult Den Leader: organizing meetings, communicating ideas and decisions, promoting the Scouting Spirit, and encouraging others by being a real-life example of a Scout. Webelos Patrols select a mascot and Patrol name and will now have the right to wear their patrol emblem on their left sleeve. The Patrol Method in conjunction with the "outdoor" program, is where/how the boys will grow and develop their leadership skills. |
