Rally against an insulting publication against Hinduism    Nov 21 1999   11:30 am - 1 pm
New England Hindus Against Religious Intolerance (NEHARI) PROTEST RALLY Please join the New England Hindu community to protest the publication of the latest guidebook by the International Missionary Board of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). This document, published to coincide with the holiest Hindufestival Diwali, empitomizes the arrogance and intolerance of the SBC by describing the Hindus as people * "lost in hopeless darkness" "having darkness in the hearts that no lamp can dispel"* "who do not have a concept of sin or responsibility" * "ready for harvest" (ready for conversions)The Hindus from time immemorial have believed in " Live and let live" and "The truth is one; the paths are many." The SBC proclaims that theirs is the only way that leads to God and salvation and is actively working to target Hindus aroundthe world for conversion. COME, LEND YOUR VOICE AGAINST THIS INTOLERANCE.It is important, however, that anyone who goes reads the offending article on-line. It would be sad if people went to protest something that they had no knowledge of. It would also look bad publicly. The brochure is at: http://www.imb.org/resources/HPG.pdfOnly by reading that can we come to understand that this particular sect of Christianity doesn't believe in the idea that the Divine is fundamentally unified. They have never heard this verse: "aakaashaat patitam toyam, yatha gacchati saagaram; sarvadevanamaskaaraH keshavam prati gacchati." (In the manner that water falling from the sky flows towards the ocean, the prayers to all gods go to Keshava.)and the meaning of it is lost upon them. They also have no understanding of the subtle and beautifulphilosophy, theology, or even mythology that underlies thediverse traditions of Hindus. I don't think they've even tried. They have no personal understanding of Goddess Kali, Laxmi, Parvati, or Lord Shiva, Vishnu, Rama, or Krishna. And their confusion isn't restricted towards us, their web-site contains similar distortions directed towards Muslims and Jews. You have to see it to believe it!Place: In the sidewalk near the Beacon Hill Baptist Church 242 Cambridge St, Boston, MA 02114Date: Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999.Time: 11:30 am to 1 pmDriving directions:1.
