The Arts of the Second Millinium Magician

What most people don't realize is that computers are run via magic. This is not a statement of Myth nor is it jest. It is fact and I will explain the truth of it, that you may judge for yourself.

Ask yourself how a computer works.
Do you know the answer?
Boolean Logic? Arithmetic Computations?
Instruction sets and Data Paths?
Hardware? Software? Programs?
Microprocessors and Bus Masters?
Motherboards and Expansion Cards?
Central Processing Units and Ram?
What about the World Wide Web?
VRML, HTML. XML, CGI, ASP,
How many languages does your computer speak?
Cobol, Fortran, Oak, Java, Basic, Assembler, PL1, and Hundreds more.

What actually causes a program to run, and why will it sometimes 'crash' without explaination?
There exists no one person who can explain all of this, or if he exist today, by tomorrow there will surely be  things he does not know.

So Let Us Call It Magic, a single term for that which is rapidly becoming more than a single mind can emcompass.  Within a computer there can now be  a terabyte of space, contained  within a box that is smaller than a most items of common use.
A Tera byte, eight thousand billion bits, more or less, and what is a bit? a single position which can store data.
Think of words, an average of eight letters. Five bits can represent all of the letters in the alphabet, so forty bits, or five bytes would write any average word. It must surely follow that a computer with a terabyte or a million times a million bytes could hold  two hundred million words. If a novel be sixty thousand words, That would be over Three thousand novels.

The  Magic of Computers
Computers use Data, much as Unicorns use Mana.
Computers rely on input, Fairys require magic dust.
Computers are powered by electricity and magnetism.  Dragons are fed by belief and Magical substances of their own.
Magicians deal regularly in magic, therefore the best qualified to operate computers must be magicians. It follows that a Programmer is just a Thurmaturgist and a Computer Designer must be a Spellcaster. Those who create CPU's and Motherboards are the Alchemists of this age.
Looked at this way, Computers are actually less frightening and more understandable.
