Hi, just visited Palo last week. It was an exxxpppeerience I will never forget. I had a chance to visit my grandma, Choling Barber, and to enjoy the Mayo de Flores Celebration. Thanks to the six-men marching band who woke me up at 3 a.m. to announce the iestas! (Who made all that racket anyway?!) I really thought I'd get some rest and relaxation, but I was wrong...however, I'd like to thank all who made my trip memorable. In addition, this is a great website! I'll fill you in on the West Coast Fiesta 2000 (specifically the Northern California Palo Fiesta), which my cousins and I will be sponsoring in memory of our grandfather, Joseph A. Barber.

Another Palo-born priest has returned to his Creator: Father Francisco "Paking" Acebedo. He was 87 years old. He died June 1 and was buried today, June 3. His nephew, Msgr. Augusto Pedrosa, was the main celebrant and homilist during the funeral mass.

An active Church worker has just passed away, to -- Mana Lalang Holanda. We have also just heard of the sudden demise of Father Rudy Malate, parish priest of Cabucgayan, Diocese of Naval. Please spend a minute or two for the eternal repose of these brothers and sisters in Christ. Requiescant in pace.

Ben Bacierra, SJEST Rector from 1988-1999, becomes the Parish Priest of St. Jude Parish, PHHC. He takes the place of Fr. Monchi g Apostol. SJEST will have its commencement exercises on March 19. Bishop Ramon Arguelles, Military Vicar, "guest-speaks" to 13 graduating seminarians. Of the 13, 11 are coming from the dioceses of the Metropolitan province of Palo and 2 are for the Military Vicariate. SHS, on the other hand, will have their graduation exercises on March 21, Sunday. It would be nice if there was another organization of Palon-ons in western Canada. My wife and I go home every year since '84 when we retired, and will continue to do so if we are still able. So you may know - the big fire that engulfed the commercial district of Palo started in the Advincula residence infront of Good Morning Bakery destroying the row of houses along its side - Lucio, Puertollano, Ortega - and across - Yu-Penero, Acebedo, Vill nes, Go. Only the house of Man' Tasing Acebedo (Mancera's store) was spared (due to the firewall). Imagine the town with that area all burned down! Waray na paralitan hin tinapay.
