Chapter 1
I sat on a plane. I was going to go see my daughter, Sunny, whom I haven’t seen in 3 months. A few months ago I found out I had a daughter. Her grandparents sought me out so I would take care of her. When I came into town they disappeared & I came up with a compromise that would allow my daughter to stay by her mother’s side & then come to stay with me when her mother dies. She’s dying of cancer. The landing was being delayed because of fog. When we finally landed I looked around for anyone. Todd, Sunny’s uncle, was there waiting for me.

“Hi Todd.”
“Hello Howie,”
“Where’s Sunny?”
“With Sarah, she’s not doing very well & Sunny’s afraid she’ll leave & they won’t get a chance to say goodbye.”

Sarah’s my ex-girlfriend & Sunny’s mother. I am very proud of her because she has taken care of our daughter & been sick at the same time. I still love her, but it’s not that easy to tell her knowing she’ll be leaving soon. She was given 3 months to live & it is almost 4 months later. We traveled until we reach a large house in the middle of a decent neighborhood. Todd & I went inside & up the stairs to the first bedroom on the right. Sarah was there & lying down next to her asleep was Sunny. I smiled. Sarah noticed me.

“Hi,” she said.
“Hi, How are you?”
“Good though I could be better.”
“How is she?” I said referring to Sunny.
“She’s fine I guess. I think she’s a little scared of losing me.”
“I kind of know how she feels. I know I missed you when you were taken away.”
She smiled weakly.
“I missed you too.”
