POOL FEVER 10TH MAY 2003 |
THE TOURNAMENT WENT OFF AS PLANNED AND EVEN THOUGH THERE WERE A FEW CLUB TOURNAMENTS AND JUNIOR TRIALS IN SOUTHERN GAUTENG, THE 9 BALL LAUNCH WAS SUCCESSFUL. Even though Adrian was the winner at the comp., the real champion was Carol Grobbler who was the only woman there. If she had not missed a difficult 7 ball with the 8 and 9 balls over pockets the result would have been very different. Carol was 2-1 up and that would have clinched the game for her. As can be seen from the standings, Lee is recognised by the handicap system as a 2 handicap even though he only came 6th, This is due to the comprehensive score sheet which each player fills in at each game. The handicaps will obviously change with each tournament but they will then average out after a few matches. Trials at Players on 24th May 2003 The trials went off better than expected, but the disapiontment was the non arrival of a couple of players. Lucky we had the foresight that something like this might happen and we allocated a couple of spots for players who came to watch the trials. Angelo was more than lucky, he could not be at the Q's comp. as he was in England during the comp. but got a spot at the trials and is one of the players going down to the trials in Durban. The unluckiest player must be Carol Grobbler who played well but left a couple of easy 9 balls hanging for her opposition to put away, plus, I personally watched a lot of her games and saw her opponent luck on a couple of non selected cannons. The team going to Durban are:- Shane Pelser, Adrian Van Der Heever, Vaic, Angelo Sikiotis, Marco Bender and Aadil Mohammed. The 9 ball referee going down is Henk van Rensburg. COMP AT PLANET POOL The comp. was a 32 field with quite a few new faces arriving. The pick of the bunch was Velli and Charlton who slotted into 9 ball with ease. Both players adopted to the 9 ball game with a bit of a struggle in the 1st 2 to 3 games but then demolished most who came their way. Charlton was unfortunate to meet Angelo in the quarters and lost 3-2 in a game which could have gone either way. Velli on the other hand met Aadil in the finals after taking Aadil's first life earlier. Aadil was a bit of a surprise finalist as his game has been a bit off lately but shone brightly on Saturday. Aadil took Velli's 1st life 4-1 but lost 4-3 in Velli's 2nd life, again, the game could have gone either way. Aadil was left with a difficult 9 ball cut to the corner pocket and opted instead for a centre pocket double which just missed the target and left Velli with a relatively easy corner pocket cut to take game, set and match. A couple of potential future winners that showed that they just needed a few more matches to get up to the top of the ladder were, Martin of Cosmic cues, Prince Morake, Chris from Planet Pool, Virgil ( Impact ) and Charles also from Planet pool. ***Player Scores*** ***Back*** |
