| RESULTS FOR THE TRIALS HELD AT PLAYERS ON THE 12TH JULY 2003 |
| 21 Players were allowed to play in the trials. Rick Schoenlank again dominated the event by demolishing everyone who was selected to play against him. The only player who came close was Frans Mathe who held him to a 5-3 finals. Myself included was beaten by Rick 5-1. Prince Morake and Themba put up a show but could only just get into the semi's where they were both demolished by Rick and Fransie. The four players above are going down to Durban to represent Gauteng at the Honk Kong selection trials on the 26th/27th July. Rob Hendriks was unlucky to draw Themba in the last 8 and just narrowly missed getting selected when he lost 5-4 to Themba. Luck and bad luck played its part in their game. At 4-4 rob played a bad shot to get onto the 8 ball with the 8 ball poised over the corner pocket, he was forced to try a centre pocket double only to see the 8 ball hit the jaw and trickle over the opposite corner pocket which left him with the simplest of finishes. Other players who could have faired a bit better if the roll of the balls did not run against them were, "Giant Killer Frans of Q's, Detlef who would clear the table and rattle the 9 ball in a pocket for his opponent to finish, this must have happened to him in at least 5-8 games, Noel and Maestro from PTa who just could not find that small ellement of final touches, they just like Angelo Sikiotis found the rough end of Mr. bad luck. Each of them had more than one game in the bag only to see a simple shot turn into an in-off or an accidental snooker on their next ball for finish. All the players played above their norm but at the end of the day, there always has to be a winner and a loser. |
