Alan Broude, made the Protea team in 1998 and was Pegasus champion in 1997

In 1997 the Pegasus finals were held in Randburg at one of Gauteng's most popular clubs, "Deja Vous." The first prize that year was an overseas holiday and the second prize was a video camera. Nick Zulu all but tied up the championship but didn't bargain on Alan Broude to make one of his famous come backs. Alan took the title on a 6-5 frame win.
King Edward school's Scottish pipe band lead the players in a march through Randburg and into the club. This was a highlite and an embarassment to a lot of the players who all wore bow ties, waistcoats and carried their cues to the amazement of the Randburg population.
The ladies finals was won by Carmela Barnes from Eldorado Park. Carmela basically won a one sided match against Carol Grobbler who found herself in a final for the first time in her life.
Carmela won the coverted ladies trophy and a James Wattama  3 piece cue in an aluminium case. I am to believe that the cue and the case is still untouched as Carmela prefers to play with her old and trusty cue which got her into the finals.
