I have always drawn. From the time I was a wee boy I would doodle around drawing dinosaurs and various other subjects little boys like.  Then I discovered an artist by the name of Ned Smith. Ned was simply the greatest nature artist and naturalist Pennsylvania has ever produced. He not only created amazing works of art but he also added seasonal subject to his works of art that showed he not only knew his subjects well, but the he had a deep understanding of the world they lived in. Unlike a lot of artist I only draw things I have seen in the wild. I guess it's my way of paying homage to the things that bring me so much peace.  I draw mainly from memory but when I get in a bind I may use a reference to get something that I'm missing.
