BLOBFEST 2005
The classic 1958 horror film The Blob starring Steve McQueen was filmed in nearby Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.  The premise of The Blob is that a meteorite lands in rural Chester County.  A country bumpkin discovers it and is soon devoured by the parasitic Blob which consumes his body.  The Blob then terrorizes the rest of the town, scaring the movie patrons out of the Colonial Theater, causing mass chaos out in the streets.  The police are stumped.  The fire chief is stumped as well.  But never fear because a young Steve McQueen saves the day by discovering that the Blob is afraid of the cold.  So the town folk gather up fire extinguishers and "freeze" the Blob.  And the military then flies the Blob to the Arctic to rid the community of the alien.  It's riveting, let me tell you.
... because of the scary looking blob!

Every year the town hosts Blobfest in celebration of such a cinematic masterpiece.  Activities include a street faire, a screaming contest, and a viewing of The Blob at the original Colonial Theater. And yes, it wouldn't be a festival in Pennsylvania without the prerequisite funnel cake and cheesy souvenirs...
Yeehaw!  I got me a cheesy t-shirt!
Posing with The Blob Firetruck used in the movie
