Before the first practice:

Check out these links.  To play Ultimate you will learn to throw the disc, cut (run to) and catch the disc.  We'll help teach you.  Don't worry!

After the first two weeks:

Okay...so you've finished your first couple of weeks of playing Ultimate.  Everyone seems really nice and they are trying to help...but you just don't get it.  Annoying, huh?  Don't worry, every single one of us struggled with some form of the game when we started playing.  Some of us struggled with many different aspects of the game.  Be patient with yourself and with us!  It will come to you, we promise!

Ultimate is a jargon-rich sport.  Wanna know what the hell everyone is talking about?  Try out the dictionary of terms.

OFFENSE (chilly O):

When we play Ultimate, we use the stack.  Learning to make good cuts and learn how to time your cuts takes time, but it makes Ultimate so much more fun.  Both of these skills are developed by coming to practice.  Remember to be calm when you are have the disc (i.e. play chilly o).

We also play against a defense called cup, especially when we go to tournaments where it is windy.   re's how we take on the cup.

DEFENSE (hot D):

We usually play man-to-man D with a set force (either home or away).  Home is the side of the field where everyone's gear (shoes, water bottles, extra discs and other junk is).  Away is the opposite side of the field.   You can remember that "home is where the sh*t is".  Defense wins tournaments in Ultimate just like in other sports.  Work on playing intense, but Spirit-filled D.  Know where the disc is and make a defensive play on it, if you can (hot D).
