The First Polar Set of Behavior:  Egocentricism and Egocentrifugality

You can have it all (but it's only a game)

The first behavior to which we almost univerally react with anger or disgust is egocentrism.  By this I mean behaviors done for self-aggrandizement performed without regard to whether they might or might not adversely affect others. What I do not mean is the "egoism" which, by some authors, might be used to describe behaviors which are properly self-directed and do not adversely affect others.   The egocentric person evokes the sensation in others that he believes that the other is not worthy of his own efforts.  Rather, the egocentric person acts as though he believes that he has the right to what you yourself create. Note that we do not rule out the possibility that a form of ethical egoism exists by picking the  "egocentricism" as defined.  It just might be the case, indeed it will be the case, that the perversion of a very specific, positive self-value (which is a distant form of "ethical egoism") is responsible for the aberration of egocentrism. Egocentricism is an extraordinarilly common human vice.  A drive down any city block is convincing: each house screams for a little more attention than the last.  The egocentric person is always after the best in everything; the biggest house, the best vacation, the most beautiful wife.  If you have a set of Japanese samurai swords hanging in your foyer, so will he, except they will be bigger, better, and older than yours.  He's the best, and he wants you and everyone else to know it.
