Mid Cheshire Hospitals Trust serves a population of about 1/4 million and is based at Leighton Hospital, some 3 miles from the centre of Crewe. Nantwich, Alsager, Sandbach, Holmes Chapel, Middlewich, Winsford and Northwich are other towns in a mainly rural district.
There are excellent road and rail links to all parts of the country. Crewe is a major railway centre with rapid connections to London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester and Glasgow. The M6 runs through the eastern side of the district enabling travel to other centres. Both Manchester and Liverpool airports are within one hours drive.
Leighton Hospital is the District General Hospital for South Cheshire and was opened in 1972. It has about 700 beds.
The Victoria Infirmary, Northwich is a 34 bedded GP unit with a consultant run Outpatient Department and a Minor Injuries Unit.
The Trust employs around 3000 people and is fully accredited as an Investor in People. The Trust values staff involvement and training and seeks to promote job satisfaction and career progression through an active approach to personal development planning. In the 1999 and 2000 employee opinion surveys over 75% of staff who took part rated the Trust as either a 'fairly good' or 'very good' employer.
