A DUCK TALE...

One Sunday afternoon around the first of Nov., we were at the park and for SOME reason we took a different path. That path took us out past the old pavillion, which is now all closed up. My mom was walking me onleash, when she noticed a white bird down by the water. She thought it was a seagull at first, but then noticed that it had a red beak. She didn't know for sure what kind of bird it was, it didn't fly away, and it wasn't afraid of her. So before we came home, we fed it some bread we had for the ducks.
The next morning when dad took me and Max up for our morning walk, mom came too and brought some more food up to feed this redbeaked bird. After she was done feeding him, she went into talk to the park administrator about this poor abandoned fella.

He told my mom that someone had dropped it off at the park two months ago and it has been there ever since. He also said that it must have been someone's pet as its' wings had been clipped, and it can't fly. Now my mum being the animal lover she is, asked him what he was planning to do about the bird. He told her there was nothing he could do, because all the animals in Rockwood Park are considered "Wildlife" and they are "out of bounds" to the workers at the park. NOW my mum KNEW why we took a different path on Sunday, THAT bird NEEDED someone to look out for IT.

My mom called The Forest Rangers Office and they told her "Not to be to concerned about it, it could fend for itself!" Well that made her more determined to care for the bird, as it seemed NO ONE would help her. So she started feeding it every night, even rainy nights. It was getting to know my mom and it seemed to trust her. Other people were also feeding it and everyone mom talked to felt bad for it, but no one offered to help her find a home for it.

So my mom got ahold of our local CBC radio station to see if they could help her, and they did! She did an interview last week and this story has a happy ending. Some kind people took the bird, which is a MUSCOVY DUCK, out of the park on Thursday morning and took it to its' new home in Hampton. The duck, which is a boy, has a new girl pal alredy, which he thinks, is just DUCKY!

We all went up yesterday to see the ducks' new home, the people who gave him that home, are Leo and Lena. We named him Lucky, because that is what he IS! He couldn't have gone to a better place! Thanks ALL for making this story have a happy ending...
