WHAT ARE "REGISTRATIONS?"
With the more recent keyboards, such as the PSR-9000, the 9000 Pro, and the Tyros, it is possible to "set up" your voices, accompaniment, EQ, Reverb, Pan Position, Harmony, and many other variables to produce the BEST SOUND POSSIBLE. One set-up like this is called a "Registration."Let's say you have one Registration set up this way:
A Clarinet on the left, a Harmonica on the Right -- playing in Harmony. (With Harmony, it doesn't just mean the two are playing together. It means the notes, although different, HARMONIZE with each other. The Clarinet might be playing an "F" note, while the Harmonica is playing a "C." To hear the two playing together like this creates a beautiful effect.
Next, this Registration might have a few other things added: Reverb on the Harmonica, to make it sound more spacious and in the distance. Or more Treble in the EQ of the Clarinet, to make it "brighter" sounding. Or maybe you might add "Tremelo" to the Harmonica, giving a warbling effect.
There are many, many ways to alter the sound and make it more interesting -- but no matter how you alter it, if you ever want to have that effect again you'll need to Store It In A "Registration." Each Registration is a whole new creative set-up with different voices and different effects.
Here are just a few of the Voices and Effects you will receive when you load these 380 different Registrations --

(to the best of my recollection):
Piano 1 (left center) -- play lightly and it's like any Grand piano. Play harder and Piano 2 comes in (right center) in harmony with Piano 1.
![]()
Clarinet (left) harmonizing with Harmonica (right), which comes in louder as you play harder.
![]()
Guitar (center) with a "spacey" Flange/Phaser effect when played.
![]()
Guitar (center) with a Portamento/Phaser effect, sounding like a flanging Slide Guitar.
![]()
Guitar that plays normally until you hold down a key -- then it repeats in a strummed Mexican guitar style.
![]()
Harpsichord that does the same.
![]()
Blues (wah-wah) Harmonica harmonizing with a Sterirish Accordion, each panned apart.
![]()
"Cosmic" (spacey) wailing sound, panned left, harmonizing with a Harmonica, panned about Center.
![]()
Tenor Sax and Soprano Sax, panned apart, harmonizing.
![]()
Medium-pitched Organ Flute panned Left -- with a higher-pitched Organ Flute that comes in from Right when you play harder.
![]()
Marimbas that trill rapidly in harmony, with a trail of echoes that roll to the left.
![]()
Two Harmonicas, high-pitched, distant, and sad-sounding, that are panned apart and playing in harmony.
![]()
"Sweet Trumpet" with a 2nd trumpet that appears a few feet away (in harmony) when you play harder.
![]()
A regular Grand Piano, but with EQ that makes it sound brighter and cleaner than the original Factory voice.
![]()
A Brass Section with similar EQ, very realistic as a result.
![]()
A Pan Flute that plays in stereophonic harmony with a Clarinet.
![]()
A String Orchestra at left center that is joined by a 2nd string orchestra at right center -- when you play harder.
![]()
A String Orchestra with medium deep strings that gradually pan to left with higher strings, continuing this with each note played.
![]()
A String Orchestra that, on any sustained note, has an Accordion and Harmonica gradually build on Right and Left sides, to a crescendo.
![]()
A double Baritone Sax in stereo, with both saxes going "Bomp," (no sustained notes) and a normal Sweet Clarinet between them.
![]()
A Sweet Clarinet in the center, with Harmonica at left and Accordion ar right. With each note played, the Clarinet plays normally -- but the Harmonica starts to fade away, followed by the Accordion.
![]()
etc. etc.
![]()
(And of course other voices with similar effects -- and nearly all having enhanced EQ to increase the Hi-Fi, and Harmony & extra Reverb to add more depth and dimension.)
To elaborate on this somewhat:
![]()
You may be surprised to find that some files respond to Velocity (heavier touch on the keys), causing additional effects such as New Voices, Repeating Voices, Louder Voices, Brighter Voices, Fading Voices, etc.
![]()
Many files make use of Harmony and Panning, so that one voice pans slightly left and one pans right -- and both play in harmony. (Sometimes the harmony becomes a chord or a chorus with more key pressure.)
![]()
Some of the Voices have unusual effects like Phaser, Portamento, LFO., echoes, tremelo, panning, pitch changes, etc.
![]()
Remember, you can create NEW registrations of your own by simply turning on or off various buttons like DSP, Harmony, Mono/Stereo, etc. And also by turning on or off the R1, R2, or R3 buttons.
![]()
Actually, these 380+ voices are only the tip of the iceberg; I can see hundreds of NEW, unusual effects and voices developing as I continue with this. There are over a thousand parameters I haven't even touched yet!
![]()
Most of these files will be updated periodically, as I find time to add new ones and improve the old ones.
![]()
If you LIKE a particular voice, I suggest you KEEP IT STORED to a disk, as it may not show up on the update. (Sometimes I simply decide to "dump" a voice if I'm dissatisfied with it.)
![]()
Finally, in the very FIRST set of Registrations (1-8) I have set up registrations for the 4 OTS buttons as well -- just to demonstrate that it can be done.
![]()
As you may already know, for every on-board Style, you can store a total of FOUR OTS registrations. (These are like any Registrations, except they are accessed by pushing one of the 4 OTS buttons. And they are stored like any Registration, also: by pressing "Record", then the OTS button you want to store in.)

To learn more, and find how to DOWNLOAD all 380 Registrations for your 9000, CLICK HEREBE SURE you have "Saved" any custom Registrations of your own to disk -- because when these new ones go in, ALL FORMER REGISTRATIONS will be lost. Also be sure to use good quality Disks, and they must be HD, not DD. (I have also heard that it's best to format your disks on the PSR itself, rather than simply using IBM formatted disks, although again, the importance of this is unconfirmed.)
![]()
I don't ask anything for these Registrations, which as you'll find represent a great deal of effort. (There are others on the net who charge rather heavily for them.)
![]()
What I do ask, however, is this:
![]()
If you enjoy the Registrations, please write me and let me know about it.
(Here are some comments from those who have used The Registrations):
What Others Have To Say
