A WORD FROM THE COMMANDER Veterans, I would like to start by thanking everyone that helped, or came to visit me, when I had my surgery and recovery. Thanks to my father, Steve Schutz Sr., Fred Thornton, Bill Richards, Gini Lisi, VFW 4600 Cooties, Randy Jeschke, and anyone else that I might have missed. We collected 60 old cell phones for soldiers over seas, and that makes for 7200 minutes. Gina Lisi turned them in for us, and I had separated out the batteries for recycling, which Gina also took care of. We will put another box out in September, so that we can get them some more for the holiday season. Poppy Day is May 9th. We need post members to help sell poppies around McHenry, as this is the only day the city allows us to sell poppies on the streets. Please volunteer your time to help raise funds for our service fund! I have the forms and info for anyone who doesn’t have a V. A. Volunteer ID card. You must have this in order to have your volunteer hours count! Please contact me, and I will help you get your ID card- 847-323-7273. In March we started out hosting the State Department on Pulaski Day. In spite of cold and windy weather, there was a short but impressive ceremony at the Park, followed by a wonderful luncheon at the Club. I was very proud of our Color Guard and Members, and the Post's Rifle Squad. Speaking of our Color Guard, we participated in McHenry's Inaugural St. Patrick's Day Parade. I thought our uniforms looked very impressive and I want to thank Gail, Candy O., Jean and Tammy for joining me at such short notice. We must have had the luck of the Irish as the weather was beautiful. We've had 2 very good breakfast turnouts in March and April, and I want to thank our members and everyone who attended. We wanted to do something special for our April breakfast and, believe me, it was awesome. I've heard raves on all the special dishes and, once again, thank Chris for all her hard work and everyone who cooked and helped out for both breakfasts, including Chris' and Jean's grandsons. Our next breakfast is June 14th, and it will be our last one until September. If you want to help out (Continued on page 2 ) |
