Class Expectations and Procedures
Attending Class
~ Students are expected to enter the classroom properly.  (No wandering or horseplay)
~ Students should prepare for class (i.e. books, binders, paper, pencils, homework, etc.)

There are consequences for students who arrive to class unprepared!

NOTE - I do NOT lend or sell pencils.  Students are required to have a pencil ready when the bell rings.
Also, students will be charged to replace lost books or binders.

BEFORE the Bell Rings
~ Check file folder for graded papers.
~ Review posted "Agenda Board".  Update Agenda Book if needed.
~ Organize and update binder as needed.
~ Take homework (whether it is complete or not) out of your binder and have it sitting out on your
desk ready for the Clipboard Check.
(see Grading Breakdown)
          ~ Begin working on the
Daily Warm-Up

When the Bell Rings
Students should be working QUIETLY on their Warm-Up.  If a student has a question, they may raise a "quiet" hand.

Daily Warm-Ups
          ~ Write out the problem(s)
          ~ Show all work
          ~ Circle your answer(s)
~ Make corrections as needed during the review

TIP - Leave your Warm-Up Sheet clipped in your binder.  This way it does not get lost before we correct
                  and collect them on friday.

Homework Review
          ~ Be prepared to participate
~ Treat your classmates with respect
~ Ask questions and make corrections as needed
~ When complete, file your homework into the Homework section of you binder.

NOTE - If a student was absent, or attends class without their homework, they will be expected to
take quality notes during the review and present them to me when the review is complete.

Passing in Assignments
Occasionally I will have students pass their assignments in so that I can review them personally.  Students need to check that their paper is properly labeled, (i.e. name, date, assignment title, etc.) and pass them toward the center aisle.

Daily Lessons / Classwork
I typically give a hand-out with each lesson.  Students may be asked to complete the lesson individually, in pairs, in small groups, or as a class.  Sometimes I will present from the front of the class; other times I will circulate around the classroom facilitating as needed.  When the lesson is complete, he hand-out and all notes should be organized in to the Classwork section of the binder.
(see Binder Organization)

Homework Assignments
Homework assignments will be included in the Weekly Pod Agenda, as well as posted on the Agenda Board.   Students are expected to write the assignment onto their
Homework Log, and prep a sheet of paper with the assignment title.

Work Time
~ Noise level needs to be kept to a minimum, even when students are assigned to groups
~ "Give me 5" is my signal for to get the class's attention

Tests and Quizzes

Students are informed of all quizzes and tests in advance (see Weekly Pod Agenda).  Since students are expected to be prepared, I typically do not allow tests to be re-taken.
~ Weekly quizzes serve as checkpoints for understanding
~ Unit Tests are given at the completion of each Unit
~ 8th Grade students will be taking a comprehensive Final Exam at the end of the school year.

Basic Skill Sheets
Two to three skill sheets will be assigned each Friday, and due the following Friday.  This gives students an entire week to get help if needed, and complete the assignment.
          ~
NO CALCULATOR! All work must be shown
~ Students are expected to re-take skill sheets until they acheive at least an 80%.
~ Score should be recorded on Basic Skills Log in the math binder.
