HOW IT ALL
BEGAN…
My interest in polar bears started when I was in high school and my best friend gave me a polar bear figurine. My collection grew tremendously fast after that. It seemed when family or friends went on holidays or even shopping and saw a polar bear memorabilia, they purchased it for me. Then Coca-Cola came out with their polar bear ad campaign, which triggered the stuffed animal collection. At present, I am collecting unique and different polar bear artifacts beside figurines and stuffed animals. Also, over the last 5 years I have started to explore and research the very distinct and powerful polar bear and their habitat. My goal is to one day be able to visit Churchill, Manitoba and see this amazing animal in it natural environment. Last year, I visited the Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester and saw a polar bear close up for the very first time. When the mother polar bear swam to where I was standing behind the underground glass and licked my hand, I felt she knew I wanted to see her close up. Even though there was a sheet of glass between us I knew that would the closest I would ever be to a polar bear. It brought tears to my eyes to see such a beautiful animal so close to me.
The only frustration in my interest in the polar bear is trying to find a book on polar bears only, and not about other bears. I would love to add this book to my every growing collection.
