A NAME CHANGE!
We've changed the name of our district. The new name is Riel District. The new badge has been designed and after a few test prints is now ready for production. The name change better represents the area, as Batoche is within the borders of our district. Louis Riel was a parlimentarian involved with establishing the Province of Manitoba. Later on he was called upon to help the Metis people of the Batoche area defend their land claims when the government surveyors tried to disrupt their plots and in so doing affect their lifestyle and free access to the life blood of the community, the South Saskatchewan River. The Riel Rebellion is a page in history dating to 1885. A National Historic Site now stands where battles were once fought.
