Correct! Vice President Gore did say "my counsel advises me that there is no controlling legal authority or case that says that there was any violation of law whatsoever in the manner in which I asked people to contribute to our re-election campaign" but what that translates to in Bush league English is "I did nothing illegal".
And guess what - - he did nothing illegal! What he was accused of violating was the 1883 Pendleton Act, which says a supervisor cannot ask a subordinate for campaign contributions on Federal property. It’s designed to keep bosses from shaking down their subordinates. It doesn’t even mention telephones - - because they weren’t any telephones in the White House in 1883! And it wouldn’t matter if it did mention telephones, because Gore did not ask for donations from anybody who was a subordinate and/or on Federal Property!
And just because some people thought it was questionable, he never did it again!!
Boy howdy, are you an informed voter! The Vice President really appreciates the amount of time and effort it takes to sift through some of the more ridiculous smears that were launched during the attempted double impeachment of Clinton and Gore, so he has agreed to let Tipper teach him how to dance before the inauguration. Just so you won’t be embarrassed to admit you voted for him.

See, he’s doing better...
But I still think we better leave before the free-style competition begins...
