Power stands for (People Organizing for Workplace and Enviromental Rights). The project was a collaboration between Concerned Citizens of South Central Los Angeles (CCSCLA) and UCLA-LOSH (Labor Occupational Safety and Health). This collaboration was between two local high schools, Thomas Jefferson High School and John C. Fremont High School. Concerned Citizens and UCLA-LOSH have developed curriculum for each school to implement environmental education. This curriculum will be used to educate youth about issues they are facing in their community. The courses that are taught in the classrooms provide students with their opportunity to learn about enviromental health as it applies to their lives and community. We are utilizing the community service clases. This program empowers the students to take charge of and be responsible for their environment, defined their neighborhood, workplace, school, and home. |
The POWER Youth provides young adults with information that can help them improve thier home, school, workplace and overall community. We offer different types of workshops such as Workers Rights, Environmental Justice, and Public Speaking. We ususally do our workshops in places with great amount of youth such as schools and youth organization. We do community related activites such as community clean-ups and youth meetings. We Successfully finished a mural across the street from Thomas Jefferson High School. Now we are continuing to fight for Environmental Justice and Updating our Information for the Public. |
