Living in the lap of luxury has been a dream for many, be it Bali or Malibu. But this season's runways prove to us that the luxury can be brought to us, via such top-notch designers as Prada, Gucci, Versace, Marc Jacobs, and Ralph Lauren. Well what can you say- haute designs from haute labels. The new wave of gold, fur, and thick animal skin has washed over our runways in a way fashion has never been affected before. When once entire collections had been deemed "tacky" by the media or the public, none of that could be seen this season. The lady ruled the runways. High class has returned.
Fur and leather- nothing has ever screamed luxury more than animal skin. A fur collar is absolutely essential this season. An example of how fashion is totally functional this fall. With it come leather pants, leather jackets, leather boots. And it doesn't stop there. Prints- the new addition this season being the ostrich, have never been this hot. We can thank Dior for conveying this message to us. Zebra pants, python purses, and leopard stillettos have all come to be expected of our couturists and they have readily brought them to us. Fragrance of choice- Michael by Michael Kors. Model of choice- Maggie Rizer.
Skip the silver. By far this season, the biggest hit to the fashion industry has been gold. Always been considered the metal of the rich, it was a natural choice for the luxurious look of the catwalks. Incorporated into everything from stockings to sunglasses, and taking over virtually every collection (ahem, that counts that is) there is nothing more required in a wardrobe this season than gold. Don't forget the big hoop earrings, millions of gold bangles, and heavy gold chain pendants. Fragrance of choice- Christian Dior J'Adore. Model of Choice- Gisele Bundchen.
How do you make hair look luxurious? Well besides saturating it with deep conditioners and shining it up with balms, well, you wave it. The hottest news in hair are soft, subtle waves, that are super-easy to create at home when you don't have time to go to the salon. Grab some light hold gel, a curling iron, and finishing spray and you're good to go. Try- Physique contouring gel, Paul Mitchell Foaming Pommade, John Frieda Sheer Blonde Shine Balm (for light hair) or John Frieda Ready-to-Wear Molding balm (for dark hair), and ICE Light Hold Finishing Hair Spray. Fragrance of Choice- Anything by Jean Paul Gaultier. Model of choice- Frankie Rayder.
A big surprise this season was the sudden leap of denim onto the runway. We can thank Natalie Portman and Esther Canadas for making the jean jacket a fall staple. Paired with hoops and a python purse its glam factor is turned up a big notch. And dark denim jeans are the sexiest news in legwear this season, especially when paired with tall black stilletos. Pair each with tube tops and halters in wild prints and colors. We love the Ralph Lauren Jeans Collection for Fall/Winter 2000 and Betsey Johnson crazy tops. Fragrance of Choice- Tommy Hilfiger Freedom. Model of Choice- Laetitia Casta.
There is nothing more luxurious than being a princess. But if that hasn't caught up with you yet, you can fake it with this season's sparkly tiaras and thick tulle dresses. Doll up your face and sparkle up your hair and you will gleam like a princess. If all else fails, contact us for some emergency 411. Fragrance of choice- our very own Princess by Princess. Model of choice- Carmen Kass.
