| The  Princeton Police Department sponsors a Law Enforcement Explorer Post. This program involves young men and women, adult citizens, and police personnel working together. The intent of law enforcement Exploring is to educate and involve youth in police operations, to interest them in law enforcement functions whether they enter police work or not. Through involvement, the law enforcement Explorer program establishes an awareness of the complexities of police service. Exploring is for young men and women 14 years of age who have completed the eighth grade or 15 years of age or older, but not yet 21 Students from the following high schools are eligible to join the post: Princeton, Lamoille, Bureau Valley, Depue, Hall, and Ohio. Anybody that is not from these schools, who is interested in joining, can contact the Explorer Advisors by e-mail or come to a meeting.  |

| The Princeton Explorer Post 40 was the first law enforcement explorer post chartered in Bureau County.  The Princeton Explorer Post 40 was chartered in 1998.  The first orientation was held on March 25, 1998 at Princeton City Hall in the Emergency Services Training Room.  The first meeting of the Post was on April 1, 1998 starting with a tour of the Princeton Police Department.  Approximately 36 explorers initially joined the Post. 10 adult volunteers made up the advisors and committee. These adult volunteers were from the Princeton Police Department, Princeton Fire Department, Bureau County Sheriffs Department, and the DePue Police Department. Throughout the years, the Post has been involved in many activites and training classes.  |

| Our meetings are the fourth Wednesdays of every month, with the exception of November and December.  During those months, the meetings will be on the second Wednesday of the month. On meeting dates you can find us in the PRINCETON POLICE DEPARTMENT 605 ELM PLACE, starting at 6:30 p.m. and an approximate ending time of 7:45 p.m. If you are interested in joining or already a member and can not attend the meeting, feel free to e-mail us. Enter the police department at the south door next to the sallyport garage door.  | 
| The post was the first organization to participate in the P.R.I.S.M. program for the District 17 Illinois State Police.  The Explorers also have enjoyed the following training:  Police K-9 patrol from District 17 Illinois State Police and Bureau County Sheriff's Department, duties of the Bureau County State's Attorney's office and courtroom cases, defensive tactics from a martial arts instructor from the Bureau County Sheriff's Department, hostage situations and special response teams from the Tinley Park Police, gun safety and use from the Princeton Police Department.  The Explorers have also received many training classes from Officers of the Princeton Police Department pertaining to all duties of police work. The Explorer Post has assisted in many community activities. Some of the activities the Post has assisted include in include the following: the Fourth of July celebration at Zearing Park, Main Street Beautification Program, Homestead Festival, C.R.O.P. Walk, Heart Walk, bicycle safety course, finger-printing young children, Crime Stoppers, and the D.A.R.E. program. The Explorers have also had a display at the Peru Mall during National Police Week. The Explorers have also enjoyed activities outside of police work. They have gone to a hockey game in Peoria, a White Sox baseball game at Comiskey Park, and a cook-out and softball game.
