History

In November of 2002, the band was loosely formed having only the one root member to date Enda Buckley on guitar, Ian Ryan on vocals, Denis O' Gorman on bass, Dean Herlihy on guitar and Dylan Casey on drums. Enda wrote all the music and was able to record it on PC. These recordings, while amateurishly produced, provided the meat and potatoes of songs that were about to come and the band’s sound and style was developed.

After a few months Ian Ryan was replaced by Denis for vocals. Ian subsequently filled in for bass. Dean Herlihy hadn't really any commitment toward the band and left at his own will. The band had never got a proper practise with Dylan Casey so he was taken out of the equation. At this point the group wasn't anything serious. In the coming months Stephen Rea was to provide (and still provides) drum duties for the band, his position was then made permanent. Not long after Frank O' Connell was hired as bass guitarist as Ian was not able to play for a gig. His talent was undeniably apparent and he joined permanently soon after the gig. So as of August 2003, the line-up for 'Purgatory' was Denis O' Gorman on vocals, Enda Buckley on guitar, Frank O' Connell on bass and Stephen Rea on drums. The band continued on with this line-up to play a number of successful gigs for 2 years.

In July of 2005, due to personal difference, Denis O' Gorman was exited from the group. Ailín Kennedy was then spotted for vocalist. This line-up has remained since then.
