19/02/05 Underground Sounds (3)
The Parochial Hall, Chapel St., Charleville, Co. Cork.

Bands:
Purgatory
Drunken Leper
Forgotten Faith
Is Risen
Death By Snoo Snoo

Brilliant gig. Absolutely magnificent. A great effort was put into organising this gig. It's a pity we made a loss at the end. I suppose the advertising could've been a bit better in order to get a bigger audience. But anyway, back to the point, a great gig. All the bands played a high quality performance.

Twas Snoo Snoo's first performance. They played three covers, Metallica's 'For Whom the Bell Toll's', Megadeth's 'Trust' and RATM's 'Wake Up'. You'll always remember the very first time you played for an audience, I'm sure they will.

Is Risen then came on to play their set. They were well received. Songs such as 'Hatred Is Baggage' and 'Kiss' proved to be greatly applauding along with covers such as 'Frantic' (Metallica) and 'My Pride' (Soil).

On with 'Forgotten Faith' who played their half hour set with all original material (I think) and then came the mighty Drunken Leper which were greatly received by the crowd. The real moshing started as they dished out their set, consisting of a mix of original and cover material, with incredible authority. They definately made their mark in Charleville. Lookin forward to invitin' them around next time for a future gig.

Then it was us. It started with a Bass/Drum solo leading into 'Call To Arms' which of course then lead to the powerful 6 minute long 'Determination'. On with the set which included a Chili's cover and a Metallica Cover. Out of nowhere came 'You Swear'. Haven't played that one in a long time. All the other relevant songs were dished out with the utmost precision. 'Beast From Air' was dedicated to Frank's brother Fergus. ???. Dunno why either. Greatly appreciated. We definately delivered the goods on this one.

"Young Bands go Underground for session in Charleville

THEY are loud, raucous and energetic but extremely talented and very entertaining for their fans who turned up in numbers at Charleville's Community Hall for the Underground Sounds gig on last Saturday night.
Five bands from around North Cork rocked the night away, playing their own material for the most part but also doing some covers of other songs.
The bands Deat by Snoo Snoo (Death by Snoo Snoo!) and He is Risen (Is Risen!) (That's a bit disappointing) started off the night before the three-man Forgotten Faith, consisting of Roman Heather, Kenneth Hynes and Bongo Ryan from Buttevant took to the stage to play their half-hour set - their second gig in Charleville.
They were followed by Mallow's own, Drunken Leper - comprising of Conor Keenan, Jo Linehan, Jason O' Regan and Pa O' Connell.
The quartet have been together for a year and have played in their local Club Icon and at the Half Moon Club in the Cork Opera House. They have also participated in a band competition in the NEC in Killarney and recently released a debut EP entitled 'c.h.E.a.P'.
The last band on stage were Purgatory from Charleville, who are by now well established, given the band members - Denis O' Gorman, Enda Buckley, Stephen Rea and Frank O' Connell - have all been together since their days in Charleville CBS.
After winning a band competition in Limerick - and a prize of free recording time at a Limerick Studio - Purgatory released a song 'What Could Have Been' which appeared on a compilation album 'Blast Beat Vol. 2', a collection of music from young bands across Cork.
The band delighted their following with a set - consisting of their own material - and they proved to be the attraction of the night."
