Skate West
Crest Hill, Illinois
(We fade in on a jam-packed Skate West in Crest Hill, Illinois. The crowd is already pumped after most of them attended the afternoon showcase card. Now it's time for the big time. The first ever PWG Heavyweight Champion will be crowd tonight and these raucous fans are going to be a part of it! We cut to Ron Martin and Vincent Coltrane standing in front of the customary PWG banner; this time, though, the PWG Heavyweight Title sits on a pedestal in front of them.)
RM: This is the biggest night in Pro Wrestling Glory history, Vincent!
VC: I've got to say, it is a pretty big night and this town has been buzzing all day long just waiting for the show to start. And it's all for ME!
RM: You?! What on Earth are you talking about?
VC: You haven't heard? This is the first annual meeting of the Official Vincent Coltrane fan club. What, you thought the hoopla was for the Heavyweight Title??
RM: *shaking his head* You are ridiculous in every possible way. Folks, we have a huge night lined up for you - our first PWG Heavyweight Champion will be crowned in front of your very eyes! Let's get this show on the road!
[We find ourselves in a small locker room, and we see England's own John Iley, dressed in his wrestling attire, one leg on a chair and his hands streching towards it, he's obviously in preparation for his match against Bobby Skylark. Just then Leigh Dominguez walks into shot and slowly rubs John's back. He stops and stands up straight, putting his feet down.]
Leigh: "You ready?"
John: "Yup, ready as I'll ever be. Hopefully, this is the first of three for me tonight!"
[Leigh gives him a reassuring smile]
Leigh: "I'm sure it will be, I have every bit of confidence in you. You just need to make sure you don't crash and burn!"
John: "Well, I don't do top rope moves, so there's no chance me crashing, and with the training I've done, there's no chance of me burning either!"
[John smiles and Leigh giggles.]
Leigh: "Well, since you put it that way. *She stops giggling but keeps the smile* You all set to go then?"
John: "Ready as I'll ever be, I'm going to make my mark here and it's a shame that Bobby has to be my first... victim, of sorts. Don't get me wrong, I like that kid, he's got what it takes, but tonight, I'm going to be a bump in his road tonight. I'm here to win, and Skylark has gone far in his time here, but tonight, his journey. [Shrugs] Sure, he's beaten Masters, and performed well against his opponents, but he's never faced someone like me. Tonight, it's my night... No, correct that, its OUR night!"
[Just then we hear "Crystal Planet" playing out of the loudspeakers and the crowd begins to cheer]
John: "That's my cue. Come on."
Leigh: "OK... Champ!"
[They smile at each other and Leigh takes John's hand and they walk off, ready for the night ahead.]
VC: Oh, God, I think I'm gonna be sick! This is wrestling, not lovers' lane!
RM: They're sharing a moment, Vincent, and perhaps they'll be sharing another at the end of the night.
VC: *chuckling* What's it to you? You gonna be watching or something?
RM: We'll all be watching if that happens, Vincent.
VC: Wow... take Iley outta the picture, and you've got a pretty good deal!
RM: Huh??
PWG Heavyweight Title Tournament
Bracket One Semi-Final
John Iley -vs- "Skyhigh" Bobby Skylark
Two great fan favorites are ready to kick off tonight's main show with a bang! The crowd was happy to see both men and the two gladly shook hands in the center of the ring; Skylark even shook Leigh's hand with a grin on his face. After the pleasantries, this one was ready to rock!
"Around The Fur" by the Deftones kicks in and the crowd goes wild. Here comes another huge PWG fan favorite: "Skyhigh" Bobby Skylark! Skylark steps out from behind the curtain with a skip in his step and a grin on his face, not only excited to be in the tournament this far, but to face John Iley as well.
RM: There is no denying - even you couldn't deny that this is going to be a great contest, Vincent!
VC: Well, I could... I mean, there's no Mark Sherrick, there's no Alex Hudson, there's no Chip Masters... what's so great about it??
RM: Two classy, respectful wrestlers battling in a clean match, that's what's so great about it!
VC: Clean? You seen inside Iley's mouth? Clean isn't the word, homie...
Troy Griffin: This contest is scheduled for one fall and is a semi-final match in Bracket One of the PWG Heavyweight Title Tournament! Introducing first, to my right; he weighs in at 240 pounds and hails from Newcastle upon Tyne, England... accompanied by Leigh Dominguez: John Iley! *a HUGE pop from the crowd, as Iley salutes them all* And his opponent... weighing in at 199 pounds and hailing from Ocean City, Maryland: "Skyhigh" Bobby Skylark! *another huge pop, which equals that of John Iley's. Skylark also salutes the crowd from the ring*
Both men are in the ring and shake hands in the center, grinning at one another. These two are hyped to kick off tonight's show with what could be a show stealer! A hand shake for Leigh, even, as Skylark and Iley separate. The bell sounds, and here we go!
Standard collar and elbow tie up in the center and Iley is quick to extend Skylark's arm into an armbar. He twists hard on it, but Skylark rolls forward, then up to his feet. Reversal and now Iley is on the receiving end. Iley grabs Skylark around the head; he's turning it into a neckbreaker! No, Skylark quickly lets go of the armbar and rushes away from Iley. Both men spin back around and eye each other, ready to make a move.
RM: Fast motion from each man; they know that giving away an advantage early on could spell their demise for the entire night.
VC: "Spell their demise?" Man, you need to update your vocabulary.
Another tie up in the center and now Iley is just over-powering Skylark. He's pushing him down to the mat, and Skylark is on one knee. Iley has the lockup tight and steps onto the extended leg of Skylark. He leaps into the air and spins - he grabs the arm... cross arm breaker on the mat! Iley out of nowhere locks up Skylark, who gets to the ropes with rapid fire speed.
RM: That's what I'm talking about! Iley just took advantage, but Skylark quickly gets to the ropes.
VC: A real man fights out of it!
RM: Then let's see you get in there and fight out of a cross arm breaker, big shot.
VC: And leave you here alone? Psssh... yeah, right.
The two allow one another to get to their feet again and come to the center. Another lock up and now Iley slaps Skylark quickly into a high wristlock. Skylark locks his hands together, though, stopping Iley's hold. John is still trying - wait... he back leg sweeps Skylark and picks up his leg - elbow into the knee! He's up, and another! And now he wrenches on the leg; Iley made Skylark think he was working an arm-based attack, and just when Skylark's full attention was on protecting that arm, Iley goes after the leg!
RM: Iley just took him by surprise and that could mean trouble!
VC: He's gonna break the kid's leg if he keeps elbowing it like that, man.
RM: He would never intentionally do that; he has way too much respect and honor to injure someone on purpose.
VC: What percentage of Iley's paychecks do you get for shilling him like this?
John rolls back to his feet and now he twists the foot of Skylark, torquing "Skyhigh" in an inhumane fashion. Skylark lets out a scream of agony, but Iley does not relent. He spins into a spinning toe hold, once again bending the knee of Skylark. He spins it into a toe hold again - wait - small package from Skylark! One! Two! No!
RM: And just that quick, it could be all over!
VC: But it's not - both are up and... Iley kicks him in the back of the leg! Yeah, right - not trying to injure him??
RM: It's called a strategy - he's working on a body part!
VC: Skylark's leaving in a wheel chair, man. Iley's gonna hurt him bad!
Iley backs up... headbutt?! Headbutt to the knee! I don't know if that was English style or just plain mean, but for now we'll call it effective. Iley is up again and he lifts Skylark's leg into the air. He's crooking it a little bit and... ouch! European uppercut to the inside of the knee! Another one!
VC: That's pretty vicious, I'll have to admit that.
RM: John Iley bringing that English style over to the States, and it's working wonders on Skylark.
Iley spins around the leg, figure four coming up! No, Skylark kicks him off and into the ropes. Bobby gets up quick as Iley bounces back. Elbow from Skylark! Iley reels back and charges again; sidestep from Skylark and Iley runs into the ropes. He comes back - hiptoss from Skylark... no, Iley puts on the breaks! Skylark nails him in the stomach, doubling him over. He places a leg over the back of Iley's head, ready to flip - wait, Iley grabs his foot and faceplants Skylark on the canvas! He puts a foot on the back of his knee and lifts it into the air - BAM! Right down into the canvas!
RM: Skylark is completely off here, folks. I think from that initial knee-strike he's just out of whack.
VC: Well he can't rely on that aerial base he's used to. He might not even be able to stand on that leg!
RM: A very good point.
He rolls Skylark over and hooks up the leg... single leg crab coming! No, Skylark pulls his legs in - and pushes them out, sending Iley flying into the corner!
RM: Well he's still got some strength left in those legs, Vincent.
VC: Not much; he's was wincing when he shoved Iley off.
Bobby gets to his feet slowly and now he cautiously makes his way towards Iley. Iley grabs him and spins him into the corner! Forearm blast from the Englishman! Whip to the far side - reversal from Bobby! Iley hits hard and Bobby charges, but he's not running at full speed.
VC: There it is! Lookit him hobble!
RM: Skylark is in trouble but hits that splash in the corner anyway-
VC: And an inverter stunner coming out of it!
Skylark limps to his feet and uses the ropes for support; he's hanging off of the canvas and stomping Iley's chest with his good leg!
RM: Now that's ingenuity!
VC: Ingenuity, Ron, or desparation?
The referee is quick to tell Skylark to let up, since both men are right in the ropes. Skylark lets go and now he's trying to walk around the ring, working the hurt out of that leg.
RM: Taking a couple of necessary moments to get that knee back in shape.
VC: That's right. It may allow Iley time to recover, but he's got to get that knee working again if he's gonna swing this match in his own favor.
RM: Wow, Vincent! Nice analysis!
VC: I was just reading your notes, man...
Skylark moves toward Iley and nails him across the back of the neck as he's trying to get up. He pulls him up the rest of the way and whips him into the ropes. Iley comes back and Skylark boots him in the ribs. Skylark runs to the side ropes and jumps onto the middle rope. He springs off and twists - wait - OHH! Discus clothesline from Iley!
VC: And just when you think Skylark can use that aerial skill to his advantage, he gets wiped right out!
That collision took the wind out of both men, though, and now Iley finds himself on the mat right alongside Skylark. The referee is laying down the count here and Skylark is still giving attention to that knee.
RM: Both men down on the canvas now, getting some much needed recovery time.
VC: I don't think there's enough time in tonight's show for Skylark to recover, Ronny.
RM: We'll see. Right now, just Iley is moving while Skylark rubs his knee.
At the six count Iley is up while Skylark is at a knee. John pulls him up and backs him into the corner. Whip to the far side - reversal! Skylark is still in it! He runs, and he's running hard! Clothesline in the corner to Iley! Skylark pulls him out - no, John is hanging onto the ropes! Skylark tries again, Iley holds on - oh! Skylark lets go and shakes that knee! He put too much pressure on it!
RM: Just when you think he can handle it, again, he's stopped!
VC: He can't stay in it much longer, man!
RM: That forearm to Iley's face says he can! And now he lifts him to the top rope...
Skylark shakes that leg out again. He makes his way to the top and he's signalling to the crowd... hurrican... no, Iley throws him off! OHH!! Skylark lands on his feet, but collapses to his knees on the mat! Iley is still sitting on the top and Skylark hobbles to his feet. He comes into the corner - leaping palm strike to the chest! Skylark lands on one foot and now he's climbing to the top again... hurricanrana! NO! Iley hangs onto the top, but Skylark keeps the headscissors locked! Iley is pulling him up - uh oh, watchout! POWERBOMB!!! Powerbomb from the second rope!
RM: MY GOD!! SUPERBOMB!!
VC: He just flattened that kid!
Iley is quick to his feet and hooks up Skylark's legs... The Geordie Factor!! Iley's got his Sharpshooter submission locked on, and it's locked on in the center of the ring and TIGHT! Iley is really pulling back and Skylark is trying to fight it! The crowd is split here, half screaming for Iley to pull back harder, half telling Skylark to fight it! Leigh is yelling words of encouragement, and Iley's face is full of aggression! He's got Skylark tied up! Bobby is still trying to fight it... he's starting to fade! Iley pulls back harder - oh, Skylark lets out a scream... he gives up! He just gave it up! John Iley just beat Bobby Skylark!!!
Troy Griffin: Here is your winner, advancing to the finals of Bracket One: John Iley!
RM: It's over!? Skylark is out! He's out!
VC: WHOA! Everyone - EVERYONE had Skylark pegged as the first Champion! He's out in round two!
RM: Unbel... my God, Iley has done it - he has beaten Bobby Skylark!
The crowd is giving an odd reaction; a mixture of shock and happinesss. Iley and Leigh are celebrating in the ring, both looking the same way the crowd is reacting. Wait, Iley's going over to Skylark... and helps him up to his feet!
VC: Oh, get a room!
RM: Be quiet, Vincent! A hand shake and an embrace from two great competitors!
Iley isn't staying in the ring to gloat; he's doing the sportsmanly thing and helping Skylark to the back. Iley has taken out Skylark... what a shocker!
(We cut backstage, and sitting in the same locker room is Aimee Harper, Hilary Bennett, their respective clients in Brandon Williams, Joshua Frampton, along with Jason McNeill and Chris Jameson, and the trainer of all four of them, Jonathan Collins. Collins looks over at all four of them, as he looks on at them, looking remotely impressed.)
Jonathan Collins: You know...when I came here a couple of months ago, I saw a lot of kids without direction. Over the past month, the four of you were joined by Chris and Jason...and now? Now you're all here, and you've all made a name for yourselves. You've started down the path I took in my career, and I've got no doubt in my mind what good it's going to do for the six of you.
Chris, Jason...it's going to take time. You'll have a long road to become an elite team, but it's started. Your time is right around the corner. Brandon? You've fought harder than anyone has expected you to. You've come a long way, and I'm proud of you. Aimee, you and Brandon make a great team. Hilary? I can't thank you enough for the support you've given me. I love you dearly. That's why I want you to stay back here tonight if what I expect to come...will.
(Collins turns his head and Joshua Frampton gets up, looking at him. The two step up to one another, and Collins puts out his hand, and Frampton shakes it.)
Brandon Williams: Good luck tonight, guys.
Joshua Frampton: I was just about to say that to Jon. You've been like a brother...a mentor. To say that I wouldn't be thrilled to see you in that ring tonight would do a diservice to everything you've done for me. If it comes down to us tonight, I'm looking forward to the challenge...but don't think for one second that I want you to go easy on me, or that I'll go easy on you.
Jonathan Collins: I wouldn't
expect anything less.
Brandon Williams: So here's hoping that happens, so we can all have a ringside seat for one of the biggest matches in PWG.
(Collins nods as Frampton and Jon shake hands one last time.)
(Fade in backstage, where Princess Candace Ford was standing by with her client, Alex Hudson. Both seem incredibly confident about something, one would even say cocky - while they were walking toward Alex's locker room.)
"Princess" Candace Ford: How you feelin', champ?
Alex Hudson: Like a million bucks, baby! *Alex chuckles* It's a great feeling, honestly. Perhaps I'm getting a little ahead of myself here, but I can't help but be confident against Chip Masters. This dude is a total lunatic!
"Princess" Candace Ford: Um... how exactly is that comforting?
Alex Hudson: You know what to expect from a lunatic! But with someon- *he cut himself off, and smirked* with ME, you don't know what to expect. I have Chip Masters over a barrel here, sweety!
"Princess" Candace Ford: *looks at him questioningly* Were you about to say 'with someone like me'? Alex, you forget, nobody is like you.
Alex Hudson: Hence the correction, princess. *smirks* Nobody can be me... nobody can even hold a CANDLE to me... and that is why, I'll be your champion.
"Princess" Candace Ford: That, I don't doubt. *Candace smiles* Come on then, champ. Let's go get you ready for your match.
(Alex put his arm around Candace with a chuckle, as the two walked off, and finally - into Alex's locker room so he could prepare for his match against Chip later that night.)
RM: Chip Masters and Alex Hudson - a match much like Iley and Skylark from earlier.
VC: Yeah? How's that?
RM: Two guys disliked greatly by the fans, two guys that will take any short-cut to win, two guys that have no respect for-
VC: Okay, okay... shut up. You're boring.
RM: In fact, they're a lot like you, Vincent...
VC: I oughta slap you in the face...
PWG Heavyweight Title Tournament
Bracket Two Semi-Final
Shawn "The Beauty" Braxton -vs- Joshua "The Purist" Frampton
We head up to the ring for more semi-final action! "Heartbreaker" by Pat Benetar kicks in and the crowd rises to begin booing Shawn "The Beauty" Braxton. He makes his way to the ring in his normal mode: flirting with the ladies and taunting the men.
VC: Tonight is Braxton's night, Ronny - he's gonna get Frampton back for that previous loss!
RM: That very well could be, Vincent. Braxton surely has a lot to fight for tonight.
VC: Next Heavyweight Champ, baby!
Braxton is in the ring as "At the end of August" by 36 Crazyfists starts up. The crowd leaps to their feet, cheering for Joshua "The Purist" Frampton. He makes his entrance with Hilary Bennett by his side, slapping hands on his way to the ring.
VC: This chick sure does get around, man.
RM: What are you talking about?
VC: Well can't she pick? Collins or Frampton? Not that either one is a prize worth fighting for... she should be coming after me!
RM: Oh yeah, Vincent... I'm sure you're the object of every woman's desire...
Troy Griffin: This contest is scheduled for one fall and is a semi-final match in Bracket Two of the PWG Heavyweight Title Tournament! Introducing first, to my right... weighing in tonight at 232 pounds, from Midland, Texas: Shawn "The Beauty" Braxton! *the crowd lets Braxton know just what they think of him - not very much. He continues to salute the crowd with a cocky grin on his face* And his opponent, to my left, weighing in tonight at 240 pounds, from San Luis Obispo, California... he is accompanied to the ring by Hilary Bennett: Joshua "The Purist" Frampton! *a much more positive response for Frampton, who slightly acknowledges the crowd from his corner*
These two come to the center and shake hands; there's the bell, and we're ready!
Frampton is going back to the corner, commenting something toward Hilary - Braxton comes from behind and nails him! Frampton hits the canvas and now Shawn is stomping away on his back!
VC: That's what you gotta do, kid - take advantage of every situation!
Braxton lifts him up to his feet and connects with a forearm shiver. Frampton stumbles away holding his chin. Braxton spins him back around and nails another one. Frampton stumbles away once more, again clutching at his face. Braxton grabs him and spins him around harder this time; forearm shot - no, Frampton double axe handles the forearm! Braxton stutters back a step as Frampton spins from the force of his shot - clothesline takes Braxton down!
RM: But just as quickly Frampton takes this one for himself.
VC: It's just one move, old man... get a grip!
RM: Frampton sure has a grip on Braxton as he quickly pulls him up to his feet.
Frampton turns Braxton away from him and locks on a full nelson. No nonsense from Joshua, he's trying to force Braxton out of this one! Braxton is trying to strugle free, but Frampton has him locked pretty tightly and he's moving toward the center of the ring. Braxton swings a leg back but Frampton sidesteps and dodges it. That would've been a low blow for sure! Braxton tries the other leg and Frampton again dodges. Frampton steps back, getting some space between himself and Braxton... and drives a knee into his lower back!
RM: That's vicious! A hard blow from Frampton.
VC: What the... what's he doing??
RM: He's spinning in a circle! He's got Braxton elevated in that full nelson and he's spinning him around!
8 revolutions, 9, 10! Frampton is slowing down, skidding Braxton's feet on the mat. They come to a complete stop and Frampton locks him up tighter... Dragon suplex!
RM: Joshua Frampton didn't come to wrestle, folks - he came to win!
VC: That move made ME dizzy! That was nuts!
RM: Frampton too, though. He's just as out of it as Braxton is.
Braxton is laying under the corner turnbuckle clutching the top of his head. Frampton slowly rises and walks - wait... stumbles over to Braxton. He pulls his near-limp body to his feet and shoves him into the corner... standing clothesline drives Braxton deeper into the corner! Frampton shoves him down into the ring; Braxton goes to a knee and Frampton charges the far ropes. He comes charging back as Braxton wobbles to his feet - he ducks Frampton's clothesline attempt. Braxton reaches back... neckbreaker on tap! No, Frampton spins it around and hooks up Shawn - fisherman buster!
RM: A great move performed in near slow-motion. I don't think these guys are gonna be normal for the rest of the match.
VC: Well they just spun around, what, 10 times in there? Then Braxton gets dumped on his head - I think they have a reason!
Frampton gets up a bit quicker now, but he only sits Braxton up. He shoves him right against the ropes, chest-first. Frampton runs to the far ropes and comes back - OHH! Running kick to the back of the neck!
RM: Double impact from Frampton; a nice, innovative move.
He nudges Braxton over onto his stomach with his foot, then spins to face the nearest adjacent ropes. He leaps onto the second one, grabs onto the top rope and kicks his legs back, releasing the grip... kneedrop to the back of Braxton's neck! Joshua drags him by the head into the center of the ring... that's just cruel! He pulls Braxton to his feet and kicks him in the ribs. Spins him around and hooks the arms - this is bad... TIGER SUPLEX! Frampton spikes him on the neck again! He's rolling through and to his feet, though, maintaining the lock on Braxton!
RM: He calls this series of moves "Pure Poetry 2," Vincent!
VC: Aww... he threw my name in there? How sweet..
He spins him around... tomikaze!
RM: Wait a second... he skips on the Rings of Saturn submission hold. What for??
Braxton is near-dead on the mat, but Frampton is getting up and lifting his adversary as well. He grabs Braxton and... oh, no! He couldn't be... yes, he is! He's signalling for a piledriver! This could end EVERYTHING for Braxton! Frampton lifts him up... he's got him locked!
RM: He'll end his career, Vincent!
VC: Piledrivers aren't something to joke around with, man...
Wait - Braxton is kicking his legs! Frampton wobbles back and drops Braxton to his knees. Shawn pulls back and - BAM! European upper cut outta nowhere! Frampton stumbles away and comes back... The Ripoff! NO! Frampton catches his foot! He spins Braxton around - boot to the stomach... Rocker Dropper - uh oh - Nagata lock 2!
RM: Submission hold locked in! He's got Braxton stuck!
VC: C'mon, Shawn! Fight through!
RM: No! He can't! He gives it up!
Troy Griffin: Your winner, and advancing to the finals of Bracket Two: Joshua "The Purist" Frampton!
RM: Frampton moves on to the finals of Bracket Two! He's one step closer to becoming Champion!
VC: Think about this, Ron - if he wins his bracket, he's either gotta face John Iley... or his teacher, Jonathan Collins!
RM: Oh, Vincent... that could turn out to be a troublesome situation!
Frampton allows Braxton time to recover and then respectfully shakes his hand before continuing the celebration.
[We come backstage once again in one of the corridors and find John Iley rolling his neck and jumping up and down on the spot. Leigh is not around this time, and John looks into the camera.]
John: "Tonight, here at Rise of a Champion, I'm still climbing to the top. I've beaten Bobby Skylark and now, I'm progressing to round two. The semi final. And I'm facing my old friend, Jon Collins. Now Jon, I know we haven't spoken to each other much for quite sometime. And yes, we've faced in the past, but nothing on a scale as grand as this!
To make it this far in my career, I feel like I'm blessed. Especially since I've recovered completely from a back injury I thought would haunt me for the rest of my life and stop me from wrestling for ever. Sure, you've helped me along the way. But I've gotten here, in PWG on my own, without anyone's help. My match with Chip Masters, I walked out of the arena on my own accord. I beat Sherrick in the tournament opener on my terms. And tonight I've beaten Bobby Skylark with my style. I've still got a lot to prove, but what about you Jon? You've been there and done it. You've held countless titles. You've been at the peak of the mountain, you've been in the depths of the valleys. You have no more to prove to anyone. Except to Chip Masters. That's why your here. You're not here for the PWG Title. You're here because you want to prove to Masters, one more time that you're still at the top of your game.
Well, I'm sorry old buddy, but regardless of what happens here tonight, you won't get the chance to face Masters. Because it's gonna be me, who gets to that final Jon. I'm tired of playing second fiddle, I'm tired of being the one who has to support others. Sure I'm doing this for the fans, but I have something to prove here tonight! And I'll it by winning the PWG Heavyweight Title. I've never been one to back down from a challenge Jon, you know that! And tonight is the challenge I'm facing. You're facing a road block Jon, and you're looking at him! Best of luck Jon, it's just a shame your luck has run out against me!"
[With that John turns away from the camera and continues to stretch and loosen up for the match.]
RM: John Iley is ready for Jonathan Collins, Vincent. Can he take him down?
VC: Well, Collins did somehow sneak his way into the finals of Bracket One without having to fight already tonight, so he's already fresh.
RM: He didn't sneak in, Vincent, Troy Fenix is gone from PWG!
VC: And I'm sure Collins had something to do with that!
PWG Heavyweight Title Tournament
Bracket Two Semi-Final
"The Prodigy" Alex Hudson -vs- "The American Champion" Chip Masters
Nonetheless, we head to the ring where "Superstar II" by Saliva starts up. The crowd begins to boo heavily as "The Prodigy" Alex Hudson and "Princess" Candace Ford make their way to the ring. Hudson is having a ball with these fans on the way to the ring, while Candace tells him just how good he is the whole way.
VC: These two are a great pair, man. Great ability on one hand and great beauty on the other. And the best part? They're so modest!
RM: Modest?!
VC: Yeah! You will never hear one of these two tooting their own horns... they don't even like talking about themselves!
RM: Have you come from an alternate planet? A bizzaro PWG?
VC: You're the bizzaro-one, old man..
RM: Vincent, you dearly need to get a clue.
"Keep Away" by Godsmack starts up and the crowd continues their outward negativity. Chip Masters bursts out from behind the curtains with a cocky smile on his face. He's having a little less fun with the crowd than Hudson had, perhaps focusing more on his opponent.
RM: Another all-star with no egotism, eh, Vincent?
VC: You got it!
RM: Of course I did...
VC: This guy may even be more modest than Hudson!
RM: Modest?? Look at the way he's yelling at the crowd, trying to get them to stand up for him!
VC: How is that not modest? He's just looking for his much-deserved appreciation.
RM: You're living in a dream world, Vincent.
Troy Griffin: The following contest is scheduled for one fall and is a semi-final match in Bracket Two of the PWG Heavyweight Title Tournament! Introducing first, to my right... weighing in at 230 pounds; from Minneapolis Minnesota; accompanied to the ring by "Princess" Candace Ford: "The Prodigy" Alex Hudson! *a nice stream of boos while Alex and Candace peer out into this packed crowd* And his opponent, to my left. Weighing in at 215 pounds, from Greenwich, Connecticut: "The American Champion" Chip Masters! *more boos from the crowd, but Masters keeps his sights set on Hudson*
A handshake before they split back to their corners, and we're ready to go! Masters comes to the middle, calling Hudson on for a lock up... but Hudson is saying no with a grin on his face! He's shaking his finger "No," and Masters is irate!
RM: What's this kid doing??
VC: Cheesing off Chip Masters, that's what!
Masters wants to start it off with technical wrestling, but Hudson doesn't want to... perhaps he doesn't want to fall into a Chip Masters trap. Hudson is grinning and jogging around the ring, warming himself up... and Masters charges at him! Hudson sidesteps and Masters hits the corner. Hudson spins and nails him with a forearm! Another, and now a whip to the far side. Reversal and Hudson hits hard. He charges back out as Masters runs at him as well. Hudson ducks under a clothesline and spins around, locking Masters in a back waistlock! He's trying for a German suplex, but Masters hooks his legs around Hudson's to keep himself grounded. Hudson lets go of the lock and Masters lands on his feet and immediately runs to the ropes. He comes back - knee to the stomach from Hudson; no, Masters jumps into it and rolls over into a rollup... no, he gets to his feet and he's going for a Boston Crab!
RM: These two look matched move-for-move!
VC: Hudson reaches the ropes, though, thankfully for him.
RM: We've seen Chip mad before and Hudson is making a huge mistake if he's planning on angering this guy.
Masters lets go of the legs and is backed off by the official while Hudson gets to his feet and he looks none too happy! Candace hurries over toward him and the two are whispering strategy right now.
RM: And right there, perhaps Candace is telling her man to take a different strategy in this one...
Hudson gets up and he's calling Masters on. Masters is the one shaking his head no this time! Hudson is getting irate!
VC: Hah, a little role reversal for the rookie!
Hudson is walking towards Masters, guess he's gonna lock it - ohhh! A slap to the face from Hudson! Masters head snaps to the side and he's slowly turning it back. He makes eye contact with Hudson... who just grins at "The American Champion!" Masters lunges at him, but Hudson dodges and sprints away. Masters charges again and Hudson sidesteps once more. Masters hits the ropes and charges at him a third time... drop toehold into the second rope! Masters tries to prevent himself from hitting throat-first, getting an arm up on the rope.
RM: Hudson remains on the defensive, which is becoming the best offense against a very angry Chip Masters.
Hudson pulls him off of the rope and connects with a forearm blast. Masters reels back and then gets rocked with another one. Masters winds up - Hudson hits him as he preps it! Masters is gonna swing again - no, Hudson stops him short! Oh, look at this! Rapid-fire forearm shots, one after another to the face of Masters! He's holding Masters' head in place with one hand and repeatedly nailing those forearms with the other! He whips him into the far ropes now and runs to the side ropes himself. Masters comes back as does Hudson from the side - ohh! Some sort of strange side-neckbreaker! Hudson flies into Masters and locks up the head, bringing him down on the side of it on the canvas.
RM: What a unique move, Vincent.
VC: That's a possible career-ender right there...
Hudson gets to his feet again and drags Chip up. He's being sure to stay away from the mat style; no single man in PWG is as accomplished as The Chipper in mat wrestling, and Hudson knows it! Hudson shoves Chip into the ropes... knife edge chop! A second one, and that's a big, red hand-print on Chip's chest! A third - no, Chip catches it! He spins it into an armbar, into a hammerlock... into a German suplex! Masters rolls backwards, still hooked on... and into a Camel Clutch!
RM: Just like that and outta nowhere, Masters takes control with his technical abilities!
VC: These two are great to watch! And such crowd favorites, too...
RM: Are you sure you haven't been dropped on your head a few times tonight already? You've lost it, man!asters!
Candace is yelling words of encouragement toward her man, while Chip continues to yank back on the neck. Hudson is in a great deal of pain right in the center with no place to go. Both arms are draped over Chip's knees and the back of the man's head is almost touching his spine! Not only can Chip outwrestle a guy, but he can do it with more force than most guys even THINK of putting into some moves.
RM: To Hudson's credit, he is staying in this one much longer than most men would.
VC: He's "The Prodigy," baby!
RM: He's something alright, but that's for another time...
Oh, Masters gets sick of it and lets go... he leaps into the air and sits down on the back of Hudson! Masters charges to the ropes and comes back - diving forearm to the spine. Chip pops right back up as Hudson writhes in pain. He pulls "The Prodigy" up and just shoves him. Hudson loses his balance and drops to a knee, quickly getting back up. Masters shoves him again, this time landing in the corner. Masters whips Hudson to the far side. He hits hard and Chip charges in - Hudson gets the feet up... no! Masters catches them! He throws them down at the canvas... but the force allows Hudson to fly into Masters - OHH! Twisting inverted Russian legsweep!
RM: These guys just hit moves outta nowhere! This is unbelievable!
Both men are down here, but Hudson is the first to try and get to his feet while still showing signs of pain in his back. Masters is rolling to the ropes and grabs the second one, starting to pull himself up. Hudson is up and goes over to The Chipper. Chip grabs for him - Hudson backs off, oh! A kick to the face! Masters falls back to the mat and Hudson now picks him back up. Whip to the ropes and Hudson puts his head down... way too early! Masters stops in front of him and double underhooks the arms! He lifts Hudson up - no! He wriggles free behind Masters and lands on his feet! He charges the ropes - leaps... Super Stardom as Masters turns around! No! He ducks, but Hudson lands on his feet! Dropkick to the back of Masters! He flies into the ropes and Hudson gets to his feet quick as a hiccup. Masters bounces back and swings at Hudson... Hudson ducks it and sends Masters into the ropes again, back-first this time. He bounces out - OHH! Inevitable Sensation! Hudson pops back to his feet and charges the ropes - Super Stardom connects, and he hooks him up! One! Two! Three!? Hudson pins Masters!
Troy Griffin: Here is your winner, advancing to the finals of Bracket Two: "The Prodigy" Alex Hudson!
VC: What the... that came outta thin air!
RM: This night keeps on shocking, folks! First Iley beats Skylark, now Hudson takes out the veteran Chip Masters! Two of the main picks for the finals are out!
VC: This is incredible!
Candace dives into the ring to celebrate with her man, Alex Hudson, while Chip Masters is slowly getting to his feet. He kind of looks lost here, folks.
RM: Chip looks awful right now, Vincent. He doesn't look like himself at all.
VC: He doesn't... he needs to get back to his winning ways!
RM: Either way, there's the the hand shake - wait... Masters pulls him in!
VC: Just a couple of words, old man. Take it easy.
It's a night of surprises as Alex Hudson moves to the finals against Joshua Frampton! Hudson exits the ring post-celebration with Candace, as we gear up for the next match.
RM: And here we go-
VC: With inequality at its best!
RM: What??
VC: Iley wrestled once already, and sure, it was a pretty good match. Collins is totally fresh! I smell a conspiracy!
RM: You smell something, but it's coming right from yourself, Vincent...
VC: You're about to smell the bottom of my shoe, Ronny, if you don't watch yourself.
PWG Heavyweight Title Tournament
Bracket One Final
John Iley -vs- Jonathan Collins
"Crystal Planet" graces the PA for a second time and here comes John Iley and Leigh Dominguez. A nice and loud positive response from the crowd, while John makes his way pouring some water over his head. He's slapping some hands and ready for action!
RM: Like them or not, Vincent, this one is sure to be a four star classic!
VC: On a scale of what?
RM: Of four stars.
VC: Is four good or bad?
RM: Four's the highest... the best.
VC: Oh... okay.
RM: Okay?
VC: I disagree. To the ring!
RM: Wait-
Ah well... "So Cold" by Breaking Benjamin starts up and here are Jonathan Collins and Hilary Bennett! This duo is making their first appearance, while this is Hilary's second time out. Collins is focused and looks to be in the best shape of his life as he makes his way to the ring.
VC: This chick's got it made. She's got Frampton in Bracket Two and Collins in Bracket One - she may be a gold digger, but she's a smart one!
RM: Gold digger?? They're all good friends, Vincent, they go way back!
VC: Way back to what? Way back to the dressing room to complain about how much this chick takes outta their paychecks.
RM: I don't believe that for a second!
VC: It's on authority from a very reliable source!
RM: Oh yeah? Who?
VC: No, not him... Alex Hudson. He knows all the ladies!
RM: Oh, puh-lease!
All four members here are in the ring, the valets priming their men for battle.
Troy Griffin: The following contest is scheduled for one fall and is the final round in Bracket One of the PWG Heavyweight Title Tournament! Introducing first, to my right... weighing 240 pounds and hailing from Newcastle upon Tyne, England; accompanied by Leigh Dominguez: John Iley! *Iley gets another round of applause as he climbs to the second rope, saluting the crowd* His opponent, to my right... weighing 200 pounds and hailing from Anaheim, California; accompanied by Hilary Bennett: Jonathan Collins! *another huge round of cheers as Collins acknowledges the crowd, still focusing on Iley*
Without question, these two shake in the center... WHOA!
VC: HAH! Collins just slapped that limey in the face!
RM: What's the reason for that?!
Iley just tackled Collins! He reaches back to punch, but he restrains himself... Collins just totally threw Iley off of his game!
RM: WHOA! He almost just lost the match for himself! Collins would've gone to the finals without wrestling at all!
Collins uses that second of a pause to kick Iley along the spine from his back! Iley falls off from the mounted position and onto the mat. Jon is up and kicks Iley right in the shoulder. Another kick, this one expertly placed on the side of the head.
VC: Man, I like this vicious side of Collins. He's not taking any crap!
A third boot and now Collins harshly pulls John up. Whip to the far ropes - no, he hangs on and pulls Iley back in... spinebuster! He grabs ahold of Iley's legs and stands up to his feet. He shoves Iley under the ropes... Collins sits back - OHH! He flings Iley up and throat-first into the bottom rope!
RM: Well you may like it, Vincent, but for myself and the crowd here tonight... it's just a bit confusing!
VC: Get over it. He's not here to shake hands and kiss babies - he's here to break bones and walk out with the belt!
He yanks Iley up again and connects with a driving forearm to the side of the head. Iley drops to a knee and now Collins locks on a chinlock. John Iley is definitely in a different position than he was with Skylark who he picked apart from the beginning. Now it's Collins with the strategy and gameplan - the gamplan to throw Iley off of his own gameplan!
RM: Collins is grinding down on that chinlock, really taking Iley out of his wits early on.
VC: That doesn't seem like too hard a thing to do...
Iley is grasping at Collins' hands, trying to pry them off... but Jon knees him in between the shoulder blades and Iley's attempts are nullified! Collins puts more pressure on now as he stands above his opponent.
VC: Totally brutal! Finally, a side of Collins I can like!
Iley is grasping again at the hands and this time reaches up and grabs the hair of Collins!
VC: Oh, how cheap!
RM: And it doesn't last long; Collins elbows him on the top of the head!
Collins lifts him to his feet, and nails a big European upper cut that takes Iley off of his feet and into the ropes! Jonathan whips him to the far side. Iley comes back - sleeper from Collins! OH!! He drops him into a sleeper hold drop across his knee, then retains the hold as Iley slumps to a sitting position!
RM: I can't believe the intensity... I haven't seen Collins this rough and ready for a match in ages!
VC: It's all on the line, baby!
Collins is just whipping Iley back and forth! When he does that, not only does the sleeper itself get magnified, but the already-worked neck of Iley gets all bent out of shape once again. Wise maneuvering from Collins.
Leigh looks rightly concerned outside of the ring while Hilary is clapping for Jonathan. Collins tightens the lock around Iley's neck, but this crowd is starting to get behind him! A small section has started an, "Iley! Iley! Iley!" chant, and it's quickly spreading!
RM: The crowd is trying to get Iley up, but I'm not sure how well this will work with the damage that has already been done.
Iley's waving them on and now Leigh is slapping the mat in unison with the chanting. Iley is starting to roll side to side - now to one knee! Collins applies more pressure, but Iley barely winces as he gets to a second knee. Collins is trying to keep the hold but Iley gets up to one foot, and now the other! Elbow to the stomach! Another! A third and Collins takes a step back. Iley runs to the ropes - Collins grabs him by the head... ohh! Back-kick from Iley catches Collins in the gut! He charges into the ropes ahead and springs back. Collins stands up straight - clothesline from Iley! Collins hits the mat hard but gets up fast.
RM: Iley's ready to mix it up!
He swings for a clothesline at Iley - Iley ducks it. He spins Collins around and kicks him in the stomach... front chancery setup and - OHHH! Suplex into the corner!
VC: That was a rough landing!
RM: And he got hung up in the corner; Tree of Woe for Jonathan Collins!
Iley is stomping away on the stomach of Collins now! He's unable to cover up! Iley runs to the opposite corner at top speed. He charges back and Collins is trying to wiggle out but he can't! He covers up his face - oh! Iley dropkicks him in the knees!
RM: Unique move from Iley, he just thinks on the fly sometimes.
VC: I guess he does, man... that was cruel. I guess it's payback time for Iley!
Iley runs away and now charges back at him once more! Collins reaches up and huddles over his knees! Iley stops short... he grabs Collins by the head - and he swings the back of his head into his knee!
RM: WOW! This isn't the friendly battle I thoguht we'd see; Iley and Collins look like they're just out to hurt one another!
Iley unwraps Collins from the corner and flops him in the ring, dragging him to the center by the legs on his stomach. Iley has a hold of both of Collins' feet and lifts them into the air - wham! Down with both knees onto the canvas!
RM: Here's a question: is Iley working the knees of Collins for any reason, or just trying to cause pain?
VC: Who knows... he's always speaking about that "English style" of wrestling. What the Hell does that even entail??
RM: Elbow to the top of the head! I think a little of that, perhaps?
Collins stumbles to the ropes. He's trying to stretch his leg... but Iley comes by and kicks him in the side of the knee! Collins hangs onto the top rope and dangles from it as he lifts his leg off of the canvas. Iley backs up and raises a hand into the air... he's gonna go for a field goal! WHAAAAAAAM! He kicks Collins in the back of the knee and he flips backwards, crashing down on the mat!
RM: John Iley is really picking it back up here. Collins had that advantage but Iley was able to just get one move in and it's been downhill since.
VC: I got it, Ron!
RM: What??
VC: Geordie Factor! That's what he's setting up for - the same move that beat Skylark!
RM: Could Iley be going for another submission victory??
VC: Whoa - he's going for it NOW!
He's stepping through... no, Collins quickly fights and rolls to the ropes. He just saved himself, folks! Iley is forced to back off while Collins gets situated in the ropes. Iley shoves the ref away!
RM: He had better watch his temper...
He charges at Collins but he gets a kneelift for his troubles. Collins shoves Iley away and then runs into the ropes. Iley turns to face him and leapfrogs over the returning Collins. Collins turns and watches him - wait - OHH! He leaps into the air and dropkicks Iley in the small of the back in mid-air!
VC: Say what you want - I'll never believe that a good dropkick or spinebuster won't bring up issues with that back!
Collins is locking him up for a surfboard submission! This is an odd variation - he's standing on Iley and pulling up! Wait, he's letting one leg off of John's knee... OHH! He just stomped the back of Iley's head and he eats canvas!
VC: He just Curb Stomped Iley!
RM: That thing has a name?? That was awful!
Collins lets go of the hold and runs to the ropes... somersault legdrop to the back of the head! He turns Iley over - only a two count on this occasion. He pulls Iley back up and shoves him chest-first into a corner. Collins jogs to the opposite corner and runs back at Iley... he leaps into the corner - Iley moves... ohh! Collins gets crotched in the corner!
RM: The tables turn once more, and Iley is going for a full nelson in the corner!
He drags him into the ring... full nelson face plant! He's maintaining the hold and getting back up! Full nelson Russian legsweep, and again he rolls through and up with Collins... into a full nelson slam! And now, yes! Geordie Factor coming up - wait - Collins reaches up and grabs Iley by the head... headbutt! Another... ano... repeated headbutts and Iley stumbles backwards.
VC: Collins may not be able to fight off the offense all of the time, but when he knows the end is near, he can get outta anything.
Collins gets up and grabs ahold of Iley. Whip to the corner - reversal! Collins hits hard and Iley charges... Collins gets a foot up! He leaps to the second rope and grabs Iley... spins him around - Glasseating Smile!
RM: IT'S OVER!!
VC: NO! Collins is forced to land on his feet!
RM: Iley shoves him away...
Iley bends over, taking a deep breath but Collins charges right back! He double underhooks Iley - DDT... no! Iley grasped the top rope with his right hand and stays vertical! Collins hits the mat, though, and... uh oh! GEORDIE FACTOR!!
RM: THERE IT IS!! Third time's a charm - he's got it sinched in!
VC: Collins isn't going anywhere!
RM: Iley is gonna snap him in half!
VC: Collins needs to get out! He's gotta reach-
RM: HE GIVES IT UP!! COLLINS SUBMITS!!
Troy Griffin: *barely audible over the huge crowd reaction* Your winner, and advancing to the finals for the PWG Heavyweight Title: John Iley!
This crowd has gone bananas! Iley with ANOTHER huge upset!
RM: He keeps mowing down the top picks, Vincent!
VC: First Skylark and now Collins... how'd he do it??
RM: I have no idea!
Leigh dives into the ring and runs over to her man, who is leaning in the corner with a mix of exhaustion and excitement! Iley is going to the final round to face either Joshua Frampton or Alex Hudson!
RM: The story here is Iley in the finals, but what an effort from Collins.
VC: He can barely stand...
RM: But look at Iley, applauding his foe!
VC: Sucker punch him! Let's go!
RM: Oh, you won't be seeing any of that!
Iley extends the hand... and Collins isn't accepting!
RM: He's gotta shake that hand...
VC: Break the Pillars! Screw 'em!
RM: He would never! Yes! There's the hand shake, and now Collins leaves the ring.
VC: Blech! Pathetic!
Iley continues to celebrate, this time outside of the ring and toward the back. He's got one more to go if he wants to become the first-ever PWG Heavyweight Champion!
RM: One more match until we know just who is going to be fighting for the PWG Heavyweight Title, Vincent.
VC: Alex Hudson deserves it more... he's had to fight through more than Frampton. Just like his teacher, he got a bye in this tournament.
RM: A strange set of circumstances, I must say, but that's just the luck of the draw.
VC: Luck my foot...
PWG Heavyweight Title Tournament
Bracket Two Final
Joshua "The Purist" Frampton -vs- "The Prodigy" Alex Hudson
"Superstar II" by Saliva starts up. The crowd begins to boo once again for "The Prodigy" Alex Hudson and "Princess" Candace Ford. If at all possible, this duo look even more cocky than they did earlier!
VC: And here's my pick, baby!
RM: To win it all?
VC: To win it all!
RM: A bold choice from you; Hudson is basically a new guy in PWG, but he's been proving himself greatly recently.
VC: And he's gonna continue the trend tonight!
"At the end of August" by 36 Crazyfists starts up and the crowd turns a complete 180. They explode with applause as Joshua "The Purist" Frampton and Hilary Bennett make their way to the ring for the second time tonight.
RM: Definitely a crowd favorite, Frampton could take it all in such a young career.
VC: That's what you gotta love about PWG, man. All of these guys are so young and fresh. No crusty old has-beens - this is the best of the best in indy wrestling today!
RM: Vincent... for once, we can completely agree on something.
Troy Griffin: The following contest is scheduled for one fall and is the final match in Bracket Two of the PWG Heavyweight Title Tournament! Introducing first, to my right... weighing in at 230 pounds; from Minneapolis Minnesota: accompanied to the ring by "Princess" Candace Ford, this is "The Prodigy" Alex Hudson! *the crowd lets out another chorus of boos for Hudson, who grins and accepts it* And his opponent, to my left. weighing in at 240 pounds, from San Luis Obispo, California; accompanied to the ring by Hilary Bennett, this is Joshua "The Purist" Frampton! *once again, the crowd turns around and explodes for the fan-favorite*
This one should be just as good as Iley/Collins just was, if these two let it go for very long. Both of these men are capable of ending it whenever they want, so we'll see what happens. A brief hand shake and we're off!
These two are circling each other in the center, looking to start off with an advantage. Frampton comes in - Hudson boots him in the gut! Forearm to the head! Frampton retaliates with one of his own! Now Hudson! Frampton! Hudson! Frampton! Frampton! Frampton! Whip to the far side from "The Purist." Hudson comes charging back and misses a clothesline but keeps running to the far side. Frampton charges into the ropes as well now. They come charging back - Frampton slides underneath the legs of Hudson! Hudson keeps charging the ropes - leap to the second... springboard back with a twist as Frampton charges - crossbody block!
RM: Nice, crisp action early on here!
VC: And of course, "The Prodigy" comes out on top!
Hudson gets to his feet, as does Frampton. Joshua charges in but Hudson lifts a knee to the chest. Elbow to the top of the head and now Frampton is whipped to the far corner. He hits hard and Hudson charges - back elbow from Frampton. Hudson stumbles backwards and Frampton turns to face the corner and leaps to the second rope. He springs off - moonsault - Hudson catches him on his shoulder! He turns around and charges across the ring... powerslam a'coming! No, Frampton drops behind and shoves Hudson into the corner! Hudson hits hard and ricochets off into Frampton who hooks him up.. release German! No, Hudson lands on his feet! Frampton spins around and Hudson charges him - hiptoss from Frampton! No, Hudson lands on his feet on the second rope!! He leaps up to the top, spinning in the process and jumps off towards Frampton - hurricanrana into the center of the ring!
RM: MAN! This guy is really showcasing himself here!
VC: He came to impress and take home the gold... Alex Hudson is the future of PWG!
RM: With counters, reversals, and moves like that, he may very well be!
VC: You said it, Ronny.
RM: Beautiful hurricanrana, but Frampton slides through it and to his feet.
He charges at Hudson who leapfrogs him. Frampton stops himself short from hitting the corner.. but Hudson is bragging, pointing at his head! Wait - Frampton slaps the turnbuckle with his hand and slouches into the corner!
RM: Lookit that! That's brilliant!
VC: That's dishonest!
Hudson hears the noise and slowly turns around, sauntering over to Frampton. He pulls him out to the center - a light slap to the face. Another one, then a shove. Hudson shoves him again - Frampton grabs his arm - into an Octopus hold! He's stretching Hudson in the center of the ring!
VC: What the... what's he doing?!
RM: Getting a submission win, that's what!
VC: I don't think so, pal.
Frampton drops to the mat and keeps the hold locked, turning it into a pin!
RM: Well, we can always be wrong-
VC: Kickout!
RM: That he does, at the two.
The two roll back to their feet and Hudson charges at Frampton. Frampton just dropkicks him in the stomach! Hudson goes flying back and drops to his knees. Frampton is up and runs to the ropes behind him; he comes charging back... dropkick to the neck! Hudson flies face-first into the mat and now Frampton again is to his feet. He's at Hudson's side and... he's locking on a surfboard variation!
RM: A surfboard from Frampton!
VC: What the Hell?? Was Collins' school a glorified surfboard submission training center?? The Curb Stomp earlier, this thing...
RM: Say what you want, Vincent - this move is simply effective.
Frampton is bending hard, trying to snap him like a tooth pick! Wait - Hudson flips over into a pin! Only a two count, though, before Frampton kicks out.
VC: Stay on him, Alex!
Joshua is up quick and Hudson slowly pulls himself up in the ropes. Frampton connects with a big forearm shot, making sure Hudson is worn down before pulling him to his feet. Whip to the corner and Frampton follows closely behind. Hudson hits chest-first and a clothesline immediately from Frampton! He hooks him up... Russian legsweep out of the corner, and the momentum pulls through to their feet... a SECOND one! Frampton lets go and rolls himself to his feet this time. He runs to the ropes and comes charging back - whoa, look at that vertical leap! And DOWN with a kneedrop across the face!
RM: That kinda thing could warrant a broken nose!
VC: Not a chance... Hudson is tough, he's from the streets!
RM: The streets of Minnesota?
VC: Yeah, baby!
Hudson shoots into a sitting position, clutching at his face. Frampton grabs his arms and pulls them back, pushing a foot in between his shoulder blades for good measure!
RM: Frampton is really sticking to these submission holds, trying to wear down Hudson with as little exertion as possible.
VC: What a cheap tactic.
RM: It's a brilliant tactic, Vincent; you're just upset that Hudson didn't think of it first.
Frampton does let go, though, but keeps a grip on one wrist. He uses it to pull Hudson to his feet, then twist it into an armbar. He turns the arm into a hammerlock, still facing Hudson, and now... he's gonna hit a Northern Lights with the arm pinned back! No! Hudson nails him over the back with his free arm! Again! Hudson's other arm is free and now he hooks Frampton up - snap suplex! Frampton hits hard and Hudson sits up after the move, clutching at his back for a moment. He gets to his feet, but it takes a bit of effort.
RM: That doesn't look good, Vincent.
VC: He's fine! Just wait and see...
He grabs Frampton by the head and pulls him back up. Whip to the far ropes but it looks like that hurt the back of Hudson! He crouches to a knee, holding his back. Frampton charges back hard and swings back - wait - OHH!! Hudson springs into the air with a picture perfect dropkick!
VC: Ha-HAH! Eat boot-leather!
He gets back to his feet but still clutches his back a moment. Hudson is running to the ropes! He springboards off - Super Stardom! NO! Frampton rolled away, but Hudson lands on his feet! Frampton is up and Hudson charges - forearm blast from the waiting Frampton! He pulls Hudson in - powerbomb coming for Purity! He lifts him up... Hudson flips back onto his feet! He drives a shoulder into the stomach and grabs the legs - Bona Fide Prodigy coming! No, Frampton is wailing away with forearms on the spine of Hudson! His grip drops and Frampton leaps into action - OHH! Sunset flip powerbomb! And he rolls through... he's picking Hudson back up - Styles Clash!!
RM: Devastating!
Step one of Pure Poetry... and now the single leg crab - hey, Candace Ford is on the apron!
RM: Hey, someone get her down!
VC: I'll get her!
RM: You stay right here!
Wait - Hilary is running over to Candace... she rips her off of the apron and tackles her on the ground!
VC: I can't believe she put her hands on Candace!
RM: She deserves everything she's getting, Vincent!
The referee turns back around.... Frampton grabs Hudson's other leg and pulls him up. Another Clash? No, he's pulling him up further - powerbo-ACE CRUSHER!! Purity connects hard!
RM: He's got him locked up for the pin!
VC: C'MON, ALEX!
RM: Two - three!! Frampton is going to fight for the title!
VC: NOOOOO!!
Troy Griffin: Your winner, and advancing to the finals for the PWG Heavyweight Title: Joshua "The Purist" Frampton!
This crowd is going nuts! Hilary lays another shot into Candace and slides inside, joining Joshua.
VC: Attacking an innocent manager... ridiculous!
RM: Innocent? Oh, I'm not even going to bother. Joshua Frampton and John Iley will face in the finals!
A nice celebration for Joshua Frampton, who gladly shakes the hand of Alex Hudson. Hudson leaves quickly to tend to Candace, while Frampton celebrates. The finals are set!
RM: Well as Joshua Frampton and Hilary Bennett make their exit, folks, we will be back in a flash!
VC: Where you going??
RM: Twenty minute intermission before the main event, Vincent.
VC: Inter-who??
RM: Inter-mission...
(As the lights dim, with the fans about to take some much needed breaks, "Now Or Never" by Dope starts to play, and the audience wonders what's going on as Jason McNeill and Chris Jameson, the members of Iconoclasm, make their way to the ring. They slap a few hands, and the audience buzzes a bit for the arrival of the latest protégés of PWG star Jonathan Collins. They step into the ring and Jameson takes the microphone, as their music dies down, and he starts to speak.)
Chris Jameson: This isn't exactly what you all came here to see tonight, so I'm going to make this short and sweet. We signed up for Pro Wrestling Glory two months ago, and we had expectations to be on their last show. They put Jason and I on the ring crew. We had expectations to be on this month's show, and we got screwed from giving you fans a treat tonight, and we were relegated to an afternoon showcase card. Now I'm all for the fans, because I used to be one myself, but I'm going to let you in on a little secret. While the PWG Title is pretty damn important, the tag teams of this
company still are too, and why we haven't been booked in two months kind of pisses me off. Do you know why? It's because they put out a beacon for tag teams across the world to show up. Here we are, and we can't get time on the show, so you know something? We're taking it. It's just that simple.
Is anyone going to argue with that? Good.
(Iconoclasm were interrupted by the sound of "Gasoline Dreams" by Outkast. That could only mean one thing. The crowd jeered as from the back emerged Adrian Lauderdale, Mac Diaz and Lena D., Too Hood. Lena made her way up, taking the microphone from Chris with a sneer, as she turned her back on Iconoclasm, to face her boys.)
Lena D: Well it's about time you people get a little notable talent in this ring, unlike what I've seen all night long. Is the Heavyweight Title SO
important, that you need to take time away from the Future Tag Team champions? I don't think so. Mac and Adrian have worked TOO long, and too
hard to be playing second best to the likes of these losers in PWG. *She aimlessly gestured behind her toward Chris and Jason.* Too Hood should be main EVENTING this place already, the only undefeated team here! Adrian, is the only undefeated contender here! Does that mean NOTHING to you people?!
Adrian Lauderdale: *Taking the microphone* We're not out to toot our own horn or nothin', but we're making a point. The tag team division in this
place is just as important as ANYTHING else here. If you don't agree with that, well, too bad... but believe me - there's a lot of talented guys in this division. Even if they don't show it...
Mac Diaz: *Leans over to the microphone* And you just know we're right....
(Mac is interrupted by a voice screaming on the PA...)
VOICE: THE REBELS ARE COMING! THE REBELS ARE COMING!
(...which brings the duo of Jeff and Harry Kewell to the ringside. You can hear the approval of the crowd, although a little small than used to be. But
the screaming of the teenage girls are there, as Jeff takes his shirt off and poses, winking to Lena.)
Jeff Kewell: Wow, wow, wow... Just a moment, check reality please. Let's face the facts: Too Hood admitting there are good guys in the tag division besides themselves? What is next, France will become the 51st state?
Harry Kewell: Not time for it now, Jeff.
Jeff Kewell: But, bro...
Harry Kewell: Enough. You know what? I agree with them.
Jeff Kewell: WHAT?
Harry Kewell: Listen, Jeff. We came to P-W-G expecting to prove our skills, our abilities. We came here for fame and fortune, but only as a consequence, not as our goal. Well, you also came for the chicks, but you must agree with me.
Jeff Kewell: *sighs* Yeah.
Harry Kewell: And how are we supposed to do that if the tag division is being underutilized? You *points to Iconoclasm and Too Hood* had the guts of be the first ones to get here and say the truth. A tag team match can be as interesting and skillful as any match you fans saw in the Heavyweight Tournament. Now it's not that the shouldn't be a Tournament, but if should not be putting an entire division at hold. We are with you guys, and we shall prove to the suits backstage that we are dead serious about it.
Jeff Kewell: Just one thing.
Harry Kewell: Yes?
Jeff Kewell: "Underutilized"?
("Soldier" by Eminem interrupts Rebellious Youth. The Vipers make their way to the ring. Justin Payne grabs a mic.)
Payne: I hate to admit it, you three are right. The tag team division is, as a whole, underutilized. But we're on top of the mountain and we should be here tonight. We are multi-time tag team champions. I am a multi-time hardcore champion. We deserve better respect than this. Instead, we're on a stupid, lame pre-game show when WE should be main eventing.
Bane: PWG has more tag teams than either of the national companies, yet we have no tag team belts. This is disrespectful to us.
Payne: Like Jameson said, we're taking over this show.
(Oddly enough, Iconoclasm, Too Hood, Rebelious Youth, and The Vipers all stood in the ring together, apparently sticking by their common clause in this situation. Adrian Lauderdale had just one last comment.)
Adrian Lauderdale: So while we take this party backstage, you just know, the tag team division is under control up in this place. If you don't believe, prepare to feel.
(The teams collectively started to file to the backstage area, leaving the crowd a little confused of what had just taken place. At this point, the scheduled intermission begins and we prepare for the PWG Heavyweight Title Tournament finals.)
[We find ourselves backstage once more and see John Iley. Looking a little tired now after his two gruelling matches. He's pacing back and forth in a corridor. He stops and looks into the camera.]
John: "This is it, the grand finale. Tonight one man walks out of this arena the PWG Champion. And the man I face? Joshua Frampton!
The student, of Jon Collins. One of the star pupils of Jon's academy. Well, I hate to break it to you wor kid, but I've beaten your master, your sensei, your teacher. And I know that Jon would have taught you a lot. And yes, you've probably added your own personal touches, but, you were taught by Jon Collins. And if I can beat him? Then surely, I can beat you too!
And like your teacher, you received a bye in this tournament, sure, you've had two matches tonight, but you came into this tournament without having to beat anyone. Yet another similarity with Jon Collins.
Don't get me wrong, I like your style, reminds me a lot of my days in Japan. But I'm afraid I'm not in the mood for nostalgia tonight. I'm looking to the future. And my future has me winning the PWG Heavyweight Title. It's a shame really, because you're a good kid. You've worked hard, trained harder, but its all for nought this evening. Wrestling isn't all about high flying moves, it's about men fighting, on the ground, in hand to hand combat. Wrestling, has prided itself on men who have that work ethic.
Sure, you have that ethic, but your passion is in your way. OK, so you've beaten Masters to prove a point and avenge the beat down he did on Jon Collins. But is that fire still burning within you? Is that passion still there? Does the intensity you had then, remain within your soul? Can you still use what you've had in your quest for Masters, in this tournament? I don't think so. I believe you become so obsessed with beating Masters that now your fire has burned down to a smoulder.
Sure, your in the final, but is it going to be worth it? Since I beat Jon Collins, does that make me an evil man? Does that make me a maniacal lunatic who beat your teacher down to within a inch of his life? Am I Chip Masters incarnate? Look within yourself Josh, look within and see if that fire, if that passion still burns? Because you'll need something within you, if you want to walk out of here the first PWG Champion.
I'm here to win that title Josh, that's been my goal, that's been my fire, that's been my crusade! The PWG Title is my Holy Grail and I'm not leaving without it tonight! You rise, has reached its peak Josh. It's a shame to tarnish you and your school this way, because when I leave with the PWG Title, I've already beaten the teacher. The odds are stacked against you. Because you're looking at the first PWG Heavyweight Champion. I'll see you out there."
[With that John walks off to prepare for the big match.]
PWG Heavyweight Title Match
John Iley (Bracket One Winner) -vs- Joshua "The Purist" Frampton (Bracket Two Winner)
We come back to the arena cold, with no intro from the commentators. The crowd is buzzing and getting back to their seats as the lights dim to about fifty percent. They begin to cheer in anticipation and then it hits... "Crystal Planet" begins to play and the crowd goes nuts! For the third time in one night, here come John Iley and Leigh Dominguez.
RM: This is it, Vincent!
VC: I got goosebumps! Who turned on the AC??
RM: This has got to be one of the biggest moments in my professional career, and the careers of these two men.
VC: Okay, I admit... this is pretty huge.
RM: You can't deny it, Vincent!
Iley and Leigh are in the ring as "At the end of August" by 36 Crazyfists begins to play. The crowd continues their applause as Joshua "The Purist" Frampton and Hilary Bennett make their way down the aisle. Intensity is the name of the game as Frampton slaps an occasional hand on his way to the ring.
RM: These two are ready to dazzle this entire building.
VC: Hopefully we'll see the same kind of intensity from Frampton that we saw earlier from his teacher, Jonathan Collins.
RM: You'd like that?
VC: I'd love it! Destroy that freak Iley!
Once again, we have four people in the ring - the two competitors and their valets. The lights come up a bit as Troy Griffin steps in the center of the ring.
Troy Griffin: This contest is scheduled for one fall. It is the final match in the Pro Wrestling Glory Heavyweight Title Tournament! The winner of this match will be crowned the first-ever, undisputed PWG Heavyweight Champion! *crowd pop* Introducing first, to my right... weighing 240 pounds and hailing from Newcastle upon Tyne, England; accompanied by Leigh Dominguez: John Iley! *a big crowd pop for Iley, who waves a hand at the crowd* And his opponent, to my left... weighing in at 240 pounds, from San Luis Obispo, California; accompanied to the ring by Hilary Bennett, this is Joshua "The Purist" Frampton! *another huge pop, as Frampton slightly acknowledges the crowd just as Iley did*
RM: These two are absolutely intense, Vincent. This is gonna be good!
They shake hands and go back to their corners. The bell sounds, and here we GO!
Both men are slowly inching back to the center of the ring. Eyes of deadly intent, locked on the other. Even the referee is just a silent observer. Out of nowhere, they lock it up! Each man is struggling for position and it is all important to be the first one on top. Right now, though, neither is budging an inch! They're deadlocked in the center... and they break the tie up!
RM: Evenly matched so far.
VC: That can't last forever, Ronny.
Iley reaches his hand into the air, calling Frampton on to test their strength again. Frampton accepts, and now they've got one hand locked. Iley extends the other and Frampton locks that one up, too. They're pushing against each other again, chest to chest. Each man attempting to gain a steady advantage, trying to catch an easy break early on. Yet again, though, neither one is giving an inch. They break apart once more, each man getting a little uneasy.
RM: Can't last forever, but how long can it last?
VC: Until someone gets sick of it and sucker punches the other guy!
They meet back in the center... knife edge chop from Frampton! Iley responds with one of his own! Forearm blow from Frampton! Iley accepts and responds in the same fashion! European uppercut from Frampton! Iley once again hits one of his own! Frampton shoves Iley! Iley shoves back! Frampton charges at him - and he tackles him to the mat! Frampton is on top and nails Iley with a forearm to the face! Iley grabs him by the throat! He turns him over - forearm of his own!
RM: You wanted intensity - I think you got it!
Iley is quick to release and gets up, walking to his corner. He bows his head there while Leigh talks to him. Iley has to get in this game, as does Frampton.
VC: These two are gonna rip each other's faces off! This is gonna be AWESOME!
RM: Definitely intense, we'll see where it goes next.
The two meet once again in the center and lock up once more. Kneelift from Iley! Frampton stumbles back and now Iley quickly whips him to the corner. He charges in - Frampton steps out with a forearm shot! Iley stumbles back this time and Frampton charges... hiptoss! Frampton lands on his feet and spins - armdrag takedown! Both men spring back to their feet with lightning-quickness and Iley charges - leapfrog from Frampton. Iley runs under and to the ropes. He rebounds and Frampton spins - back elbow from Iley! Frampton flies back, but not to the canvas. Iley hits the ropes again and charges in - clothesli- sidewalk slam from Frampton! He rolls Iley over... single arm Camel Clutch! Frampton takes a decisive advantage!
RM: There it is!
VC: The chain has been broken and Frampton takes control!
RM: A dangerous situation early on; Jonathan Collins has taught this young man very well.
Iley is in a pickle here, but he's got that free arm and uses it - he plants it into the canvas, giving himself a firm base to work against. He's starting to get to his knees, but Frampton realizes he's losing the hold and grabs Iley up.
RM: A willing release, which may be better than being on the receiving end of a counter.
Forearm shot to the face and a whip to the corner to stop Iley's comeback. Frampton briskly moves to Iley and spins him around, chest-first in the corner. Forearm blast to the small of the back! Another! Frampton grabs Iley around the waist and pulls him back... back suplex! He rolls over and grabs Iley's leg; stands up and turns again - single leg crab!
RM: Another submission move - trying to beat Iley at what has earned him two wins already tonight!
Frampton again goes to work on the back, but this time Iley is able to crawl to the ropes. Iley reaches them, but Frampton keeps the hold on! He's even pulling back harder!
VC: YES! That's it, baby! Break him!
He finally releases at the count of four. Frampton walks away and now Iley is pulling himself up on the ropes... Frampton kicks him in the back! Again! He pulls him up now and whips him to the ropes.... spinebuster! He pulls Iley RIGHT back up, though and hooks him for another sidewalk slam? No, into a backbreaker over the knee, and now he's bending Iley over his leg!
VC: I've known it all along and so does Frampton - there is no WAY that back is legit one hundred percent!
RM: If Iley says it, it's gotta be true. He's taken so much punishment to it lately and just keeps on fighting back.
Iley is fighting the pain here, not giving it up. He reaches up and grabs the face of Frampton, but he shakes him off. Frampton shoves Iley onto the canvas now. He's dragging him by the legs into the center of the ring... going for a surfboard!
RM: Reliability on what works - surfboard coming up!
He stands on the knees and grabs Iley's arms... and rocks back into a sitting position! He's pulling back on Iley's arms... wait... oh, an inverted chancery!
VC: Oh, just plain vicious!
RM: A surfboard/Dragon sleeper combo! Frampton is really working over Iley.
He's just twisting him up! Iley is in pain here; if that back was healed, it's gonna need to be cured again after this match! Frampton is rocking down on Iley with that surfboard lock... but Iley won't give up, and Frampton knows it! He releases the hold and Iley crashes face-first onto the mat.
Frampton is up once more, this time looking a little more unhappy than we've seen him.
VC: Look at that face, man - he is out for blood!
He drags Iley to his feet and pushes him against the ropes. European uppercut and Iley has no place to go. Frampton rocks him again! Whip to the far side - reversal! Frampton comes back - hiptoss from Iley again! No! He tried lifting him up but his back couldn't take it!
VC: YES! Yes! There it is!
Iley lets go and clutches his spine... look at the twinkle in Frampton's eye! He hooks him up from behind... German suplex! He's rolling through! Another! Three! Frampton is still pulling him up... four!
RM: How many can he pull off??
He's pulling through again... five! Frampton is relentless! He yanks him up and... backdrop driver - OHHH!! He drops Iley back-first over his leg!
VC: Frampton Comes Alive, baby, and Iley just got murdered!
RM: Cover! One! Two!
NO!! Iley kicks out! He got a shoulder up, and Frampton can't believe it! He pulls John up to his feet again, this time more vicious than before. Hard forearm blast to the face and then just a kick to the side as Iley stumbles away!
RM: No finesse, no pretty moves - this is all about brute force!
He grabs Iley and whips him into the corner. Frampton charges - clothesline! He turns and hooks him up... running bulldog! NO! Iley shoves him off! Frampton turns and charges - POWERSLAM!! Iley musters the strength to powerslam him and he did it H-A-R-D, HARD! He's clutching at his own back as well, though, but fighting through the pain!
RM: There ya go, Vincent, just like you said... that back is bothering him!
VC: It's all downhill from here, baby!
Frampton is up but Iley grabs him - forearm to the face! Another one and Frampton is in the corner. Iley whips him to the far corner and Frampton hits and stays. Iley charges - flying splash! Iley bounces off and clutches his back again as he stumbles away from the corner.
RM: He needs to watch that back-
VC: Frampton's watching it, here he comes!
Frampton charges from behind - OHH! Iley with a standing back-kick! Frampton gets knocked goofy and flies into the corner! Iley spins around and sits Frampton on the top... what's he thinking?! He'll kill himself!
RM: This can't be good for Iley...
VC: Superplex??
RM: He's outta his mind!
Frampton blocks! He lifts Iley up - TO THE OUTSI-Iley lands on his feet on the apron! OH! He just shoved Frampton off and into the ring! He crashes hard and now Iley is struggling to climb the top rope.
VC: He's gonna kill himself, Ronny!
RM: He's gotta think this through!
Frampton is getting to his feet and now Iley is up... he leaps - AIR ENGLAND!!! Iley catches him with a tremendous cross body block! He covers - no, Frampton rolled through! Too much momentum!
VC: IT'S OVER!!
RM: NO! He kicks out!
Both men are quick to their feet and Iley buries a boot into Frampton's stomach. He charges the ropes and comes back - hurricanrana from Frampton... sitdown powerbomb counter from Iley!
RM: Iley is really staying on top here!
A two count only for Iley, but a lack luster pin attempt as well. He gets to his feet and is dragging Joshua as well. Whip to the far ropes... wait, Iley drops to his knees. He's clutching at his back and Frampton stops dead. He's looking around... he doesn't know what to - wait... he's charging at him anyway! Frampton runs at Iley - SPPPPPEEEEEEEEAAAAAAARRRRRRRR!! Iley spears the life out of Frampton!
RM: Iley just took - him - OUT!!
He rips Frampton to his feet... Iley just got an adrenaline rush! He pulls Frampton up - torture rack suplex! Both men crash down and Iley is fighting through the pain!
He grabs Frampton again and he's signalling for the end! Tyne Bridge coming up! He hooks Josh and lifts - no, Frampton crushes him in the neck with a forearm blow!
VC: Stay out of it, punk!
Iley drops him and Frampton repositions... Purity on its way! He lifts him into the powerbomb - wait... Iley spins around on Frampton's shoulders! Victory roll! One! Two!! THREE!!!! ILEY PINS HIM!! ILEY PINS HIM!! ILEY PINS HIM!!!!!
RM: HE GOT HIM!! ILEY WINS IT!! ILEY IS THE CHAMPION!!
VC: What?! Where did... how did?!
RM: Tremendous! John Iley is the first PWG Champion!
Troy Griffin: Here is your winner... and undisputed Pro Wrestling Glory Heavyweight Champion: John Iley!!
The crowd absolutely EXPLODES as Iley is handed the belt. He raises it into the air and the crowd gets louder, while Frampton just stares at the canvas.
VC: That was highway robbery!
RM: How??
VC: That finisher, that was an illegal hold!
RM: A victory roll??
VC: Yes! Pure nonsense and unadulterated chicanery!
Frampton is slowly getting to his feet with Hilary consoling him. All four of these people look pretty worn out, mentally and physically. Frampton comes forward and... takes the belt?? He's fastening it around Iley!
VC: Oh, come on, kid! Hit him with it!
A hand shake and embrace in the ring... what a moment for these two all star competitors! John Iley is the PWG Heavyweight Champion!
(John Iley exits the ring and goes into the crowd, celebrating with this amazing audience. As the people swarm around him, we fade to black.)
