Mario RPG is a delightful game for the SNES that came out in 1996. It was a team effort between Square (the makers of such RPGs as the Final Fantasy series) and Nintendo. This pairing resulted in a Mario game unlike anything seen before; a real roleplaying game with surprising plot twists and turn-based battle. Relations between Square and Nintendo went bad, and soon after SMRPG' release they cut off business with each other. Since SMRPG was still partially owned by Square, Nintendo couldn't use SMRPG-unique characters like Mallow and Geno, and any plot development made in the game was more or less lost. However, Square and Nintendo have recently made amends, and Mario RPG fans everywhere cross their fingers in hope of an SMRPG port for the Gameboy Advance, or maybe even appearances by Mallow and Geno in future editions of Super Smash Brothers. SMRPG had beautiful graphics for its time and system, and had memorable events like Bowser teaming up with Mario. Basically, it's a really bitchin' game. Me and Para just love it, so there's going to be an insane amount of info here about it. |
