Or if diety's do like making threats, he would have been more inconspicuous about it with symbolism or vague terms in a book. And said book would contradict itself countless times over and have inconsistencies that only confuse the people reading it even more. Thus making the reader feel as if the illogical nature of it is really a divine wisdom that they can't understand and they choose to accept it out of fear of wrath from the higher power.
