From the
desk of:
Bernard Rowe, Riding President
Well, what a range of feelings in twelve months.
Last year we had the excitement of a Leadership Race, the
euphoria of welcoming hundreds of new members to the Canadian Alliance
Quadra Constituency Association, followed by a challenging election
campaign. Then the last six
months brought the disappointments and division over the question of the
Leadership.
In July your Board voted that we write to the party’s National Council
urging that Mr. Day resign immediately in order to start the healing
process. Later in the month
we joined with representatives from Vancouver Kingsway in a meeting with
the Leader. The CA has been
damaged, but let’s look at some hard facts:
·
The Reform/Canadian Alliance vote in Quadra has increased in each of the
last 3 elections. In 2000
our vote was so strong that only a small increase would have won the
seat for us.
·
There are no prizes in politics for 2nd place, but the campaign
taught us some valuable lessons & demonstrated that Kerry-Lynne
Findlay was a great candidate. Kerry
is now a valued member of the riding Board, and was recently recognized
with the 2001 YWCA Woman of Distinction Award for Management, the Professions
& Trades.
·
The Liberals are discussing plans for $3.5 Billion of additional
spending, at a time when a slowing economy might well wipe out the
present surplus.
·
The modest financial restraint that the Liberals did exercise was a direct
result of CA pressure in Parliament – see Herb Grubel’s excellent
book “A Professor in Politics”.
·
Jean Chretien’s legendary arrogance, (& McLellan’s & Rock’s)
is provoking even normally ‘led by the nose’ Liberal MPs.
·
The CA is the only party dedicated to enhancing the country we love with
its policies of Financial & Social Responsibility, Government Reform
& Grass Roots Democracy.
·
Three of the “dissident” MPs have returned to the CA caucus.
The stock market may not be recovering, but the CA certainly is.
Your Quadra Board is committed
to strengthening the constituency and communicating with our members.
Our first Breakfast Information Meeting will be with Senator Gerry St.
Germain. Join us!

VANCOUVER
QUADRA AGM MAY 23RD
Our
Annual General Meeting was held on May 23rd at the Point Grey
Golf Club with approximately 100 members in attendance. With out-going President Joshua Hauser in the Chair, the
meeting reviewed the past year, the election campaign results,
successful fundraising, and leadership issues.
Kerry-Lynne Findlay took the opportunity to thank the riding
members and executive for their great effort and support in the election
campaign. The guest speaker was rookie M.P. Joe Peschisilido, Richmond,
who discussed the CA parliamentary agenda to date, and called for unity
and moderation within the party. His
remarks were most informative and well-received.

Parliament-
Fall 2001 Session
Excerpt from Stockwell Day’s September 2001 letter
to his Okanagan-Coquihalla constituents: “..Behind the smokescreen of
our unnecessary public bickering, the federal Liberals continue to spend
us toward a deficit, weakening the dollar and imperilling our health
care system…The federal Liberal government’s mismanagement of the
Softwood Lumber issue, their inaction on the problems facing our
farmers, and the failure of this federal government to table a budget in
almost two years, will be one of our [CA caucus] top priorities…”
CA/PC POLICY
CONFERENCE
Neither political party is sponsoring this conference.
The organizers are conservative thinking people from both the
Canadian Alliance and Progressive Conservative parties.
Kerry-Lynne Findlay, Barb Wilson and Ray Leitch will
represent our Quadra riding association. Conference discussions
will focus on issues of interest and concern to conservatives in B.C. in
the task of identifying areas of convergence.

trying to find out what the world holds for them only to find out too
late that it’s what they bring to the world that really counts.”
