| Planet Earth is the third closest planet to the sun and the fifth largest overall. Earth is distinguished as having blue waters, green and brown land masses and white clouds. Earth is the only planet in the Solar System known to harbor life because of the pleasant atmospheric conditions which provides enough supporting conditions for living things. Earth is divided into several solid plates which float independantly on the hot mantle. The eight major plates are North American Plate, South American Plate, Antartic Plate, Eurasian Plate, African Plate, Indian-Australian Plate, Nazca Plate and Pacific Plate. 71% of earth's surface is covered by water and the only planet that is capable of possessing water (in liquid form). |
