Tenjaray and Rainbow Liuath's Weyr
Impressed at Wu Weyr
"It sure is a good thing I know how to train those flits, huh?" The young woman laughs, as a dozen wild flitters gather around her hair and make lots of noise.

One of them, then three, then six, begin to chirp loudly and pull at your hair next.

"Sorry about her. She's just... kind of excitable. Which her? Well, I suppose all of them, huh?"

Finally, with a broad sweep of her hand and a painfully loud whistle, she sends the flits flying away, and they gather on the trees and stone outcroppings nearby, watching you intently.

"Now, I guess you'd like to hear a little about me. Well, I'm not really related to mama Tani directly, I'm like a cousin's grand-neice or something. My parents are both beastcrafters, but I was the last of their children, and I suppose I have a big family somewhere." She glances up at the flits, and then back at you.

"I've been able to train some animals, and I always like to see it when someone else knows how to do it too, you know? I ran into someone who could actually control runner beasts. It was wild."

She indicates a shady spot below the large tree the two of you stand near. The breeze here is cooler, though the summer sun beats down harshly elsewhere on the grassy hillside. The cottage and sprawl of small cotholds which make up Raanatani's Fosterling hold can be seen dotting the hills.

"I've been searched for a place called
Wu Weyr," she says, almost off hand. "It's a new place, but the dragons there are supposed to be very strong. I'm hoping that I can make it there for the hatching, and some classes. It would be good to get a break. And it would be even better to impress a dragon!"

You ask her what sort of rider she thinks she would be, and she smiles with narrow eyes.

"The best kind," she says, "the kind that knows how to fix a wound on a sail, the kind who knows how a dragon flies without having been on one?" She thumbs up at the flitters on the branches. "I've studied them for years, and they are just small dragons, right? They don't always act like the big ones, but I know their skin and organs are about the same. Only bigger. Lots bigger." Again she smiles widely. "I want to impress a big strong dragon. One who knows what I want, and who can tell me what they want and together we'll get everything in the world. From the skies to the bottom of the sea."
Back to the Candidates List where you can see a physical description of Tenjaray and her other foster siblings
The day of the hatching had finally arrived. Wu weyr was both hungry and tired when the eggs did start to open, they took their sweet time!

One of the other Fosterlings, Cynonix, impressed the first to crack shell, a cute if clumsy brown. Then, several other eggs broke, and the hatching became a quick paced event!

When Tenjaray's fostersister Tsukiya impressed a green, no one was really surprised. Then, two small eggs broke, and revealed a marvelous pair of dragonets: a white one, and one whose hide had all the shimmering colors of the rainbow! Another candidate helped Tenjaray when the pair got all tangled up, a mix of tails, wings and necks!

Oh, I cannot do anything right...
I cannot believe I have messed up. I am so sorry... Tenjaray please forgive me! My pale brother is hungry and so am I and I do not know the way to the food! Please make everything better!

"Liuath... My sweet! You're the best dragon on Pern, and you will learn where everything is!... Including your legs and wings," she laughed, as the little oddly shaded dragonet flapped her wing sharply onto Tenjaray's face!
Liuath learned to fly early. It was just something she'd taken to, like most hatchlings take to eating and itching. Her beautiful hide had to be tended to when she accidentally flew into some rocks -- sometimes, the lovely rainbow colored dragoness just didn't remember just exactly where her limbs were! That event gave Tenjaray a lesson in dragonhealing that she did not expect: she could feel the pain that her dragon was going through! That made it both easier and harder to work with, because she did know where the wounds were... But it was difficult at best to concentrate on healing it!

Liuath was rather eager to show off her bandaged wing, when she was let out of the healing areas. It was somewhat comical, this dragoness sporting what equated to a big band-aid.

But no one laughed at her, because she had grown to a respectable size (considering that most of her type of oddities were quite small), just about between a blue and a green. She seemed content there.

Tenjaray too liked her that way. "Not too big, not too small. Just the right size to make a perfect entrance!"

And an entrance they made, upon returning briefly to Mama Tani's cothold. They were on their way to the Healer's Stones, following instructions from Z'ed and brown Diazhath for their new Wing assignment. The Cothold had never seen such a beautiful dragon before -- and Liuath was convinced they never would again!

Unless I find the right male. Then I will be all over the place. You will see many like me!
