Over Ten Years of Mega Man!!
In 1987, a new idea for a game was introduced. It was a game in which, for the first time, the player didn't have to complete the stages of the game in any particular order. Enemies could be conquered whenever the player wanted. It introduced a loveble new armed android that would later become a cash cow and star in 17 games.
The variable weapon system this blue 'bot carried was also innovative. In all games prior, extra weaponry would be discarded either when a new one was picked up or when it ran out of ammo. For the first time, a special power could be kept indefinitely, but with a catch. You had to beat its original owner to get it. Thus, the premise for a great game was created. In Japan, it was named after the hero, Rockman. In America, the hero was renamed Mega Man!

Mega Man. This is the game that started it all. Dr. Light, brilliant robot designer, has his six industrial robots, Cutman, Gutsman, Elecman, Bombman, Iceman, and Fireman, stolen by his former friend and arch-rival, the evil genius Dr. Wily. He left behind Light's two domestic robots, Rock and Roll. Rock, having a strong sense of justice, volunteers to become converted by Dr. Light into the combat robot known as... MEGAMAN! |
 |
In the long awaited sequel, Dr. Wily is at it again! He has constructed the awsome Skull Castle, a base of opperations from which the evil genius may launch attacks with his eight new Robot Masters, Quickman, Flashman, Crashman, Bubbleman, Metalman, Heatman, Woodman, and Airman. But, to help his greatest creation, Dr. Light builds the three vehicle items: Item-1, the levetation platform, Item-2, the jet sled, and Item-3, the wall-walker. |
 |
In the third instalment in this saga, Dr. Wily is actually a good guy! He and Dr. Light make plans to build the ultimate peace-keeping robot, Gamma. They send the Blue Bomber to gather neccessary parts from different mining areas, where he runs into Snakeman, Needleman, Geminiman, Hardman, Topman, Shadowman, Sparkman, and Magnetman. With the help of his new dog Rush, who can transform into a spring coil, jet, and submarine, Megaman gets the parts only to be slowed by the inigmatic Protoman, who seems to be trying to tell him something. In the end, he fights Protoman (at the time going by Breakman) and finds that once it was completed, Wily ran off with Gamma! He raids the new Skull Castle and destroys Gamma. When the fortress collapses, he is mysteriously rescued by Protoman, who is actually Dr. Light's prototype for a fighting robot and Megaman's older brother. |

In the Megaman 4, our hero got the new Mega-Buster, a chargeable plasma blaster upgrade for his arm cannon. He needed it against Dustman, Skullman, Diveman, Drillman, Toadman, Brightman, Pharoahman, and Ringman, all created by Dr. Cassock. When the battling 'bot reaches Cassock's Siberian stronghold, he finds that he was under the influence of Dr. Wily, who had kidnapped his daughter Kalinka. Kalinka was rescued by Protoman, allowing Megaman to go after the real threat. Some of the robots here, incidentally, were the result of a contest held by Capcom in Japan. |
 |
The unbeleiveable has happened. Protoman has gone bad! He has led his army of Robot Masters, Gravityman, Gyroman, Stoneman, Chargeman, Waveman, Napalmman, Crystalman, and Starman, in successful attacks on all major cities in the world. As Megaman reaches Protoman, with the help of a new bird ally Beat, he finds that a robot named Darkman, masquerading as Proto, was in charge, and that the real culprit is...guess. |
 |
A robot deigners convention, and all seemed quiet. The finest minds in robotics gathered from all over the world to showcase their new designs. Then, eight of the best-designed robots were stolen by the unknown Mr. X. Megaman fights through Blizzardman, Knightman, Centaurman, Yamatoman, Plantman, Tomahawkman, Flameman, and Windman. With the help of Protoman, and some cool gadgets, including a rocketpack, he reaches Mr. X, who is in reality, Dr. Wily! (Noticing a pattern?) Here, the Robot Masters were the result of contest entries from sick minds in Canada, Europe, and right here in the USA. |

Dr. Wily is finally behind bars! But, like all sinister masterminds, he planned ahead. He left four robots to break him out: Junkman, Freezeman, Burstman, and Springman. On his way to stop them, he encounters Bass, a mysterious robot with his robotic canine Trebble. After Wily raids the robot museum (where fans can see some familiar faces in the background) to steal Gutsman, the blue bomber must face Shademan, Turboman (a transformer! cool!), Slashman (a Wolverene ripoff), and Cloudman. Here, Megaman gets help from everyone, even obtaining Protoman's Proto-shield. Bass gains his trust and is allowed access to Dr. Light's lab, at which point he trashes the place and it is revealed that he is Dr. Wily's creation! Megaman fights through the mad doctor's lab, confronting a new Gutsman abomination and Bass and Trebble, who use stolen enhancements meant by Dr. Light for Megaman and Rush. Mega gets some assistance form Auto, who makes items and modifies Rush, who can now turn into a suit of armor for Megaman. |

Two strange meteorites his the earth, and Dr. Light sends Megaman to investigate. At the scene, he finds Dr. Wiley running off with one of them. The other is being guarded by Duo, an alien robot wh at first appears to be a foe. Megaman soon finds that he is a friend. The brave blue bomber goes toe-to-toe with Tenguman, Astroman, Swordman, Searchman (who has two heads), Grenademan, Aquaman, Clownman, and Frostman, and also encounters Bass and Trebble again! Duo says that he is hunting the meteroites because they contain Evil Energy, and Dr. Wily intends to use it! In the end, the Evil Energy tries to take over Magaman, but Duo purges him of it before it can. Duo leaves, and Protoman tells Megaman who saved him.
