Lay It Down
by Rachel Young
I know what it's like to be alone
And I know what it's like to be afraid
I know there are wounds that never heal
And you think you can just run away
I know what it's like to hold on
To a broken past that won't let you go
I know there are times in the night
When you feel that emptiness is all you know
But in the stillness, I am there
And in the quiet, I can hear
The echoes of your heart
The whispers of your soul
And if you'd just lay it down
That's where you start to let it go
I know what it's like to hurt inside
Smile for the world but cry to sleep at night
And you pray for a helping hand to
Pull you out of the dark you hide behind
I know what it's like to hold on
To a painful past that won't let you go
I know there are times in your life
When you feel that loneliness is all you know
But in the stillness, I am there
And in the quiet, I can hear
The echoes of your heart
The whispers of your soul
And if you'd just lay it down
That's where you start to let it go
