One month later . . .
I haven't paid much attention to the news since Sunday. It just makes me so sad, and I'd rather not think about it too much. But I read this article today, and I have to wonder will we not be satisfied until 5,000+ Afghans are killed to "make up" for our loss one month ago? Along with the Taliban militant forces, there are innocent people dying every day over there in the middle east. And I'm sure there are a number of "patriotic" Americans who could care less as long as "America the Great" is showing them who's boss.
A columnist for USA Today was out with his kids this past Sunday when they all heard the news. His 9-year-old daughter asked him, "Daddy, aren't those people in Afghanistan just like us?"
The columnist was a bit baffled as to how to respond to her question (as I'm sure most parents have been). He tried to explain to her that there are good guys and there are bad guys. And that the good guys had to fight the bad guys to keep the world safe.
But can you imagine there is probably an Afghan father telling his daughter the very same story.
An eye for an eye will make the world go blind.
