He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

-Isaiah 40: 29-31

You feel like there’s only so much of this you can take, and yet you can’t pull yourself away. And rightly so—this affects everyone all over the world.

A whirlwind of thoughts stir in my mind with every image that I see. This one of President Bush being initially informed of the plane crashes makes me wonder what it must be like to be in his shoes.

What do you do? What goes through your mind? How do you remain calm and composed during a time like this?

I know the President is seeking guidance from his father, Bush Sr., who endured a similar dilemma during the Gulf War. But it is my prayers that he seeks ultimate guidance from the Holy Father. So far, I've been very impressed with his composure and courage as a leader.

As the nation prepares for the worst, organizing our military defense and seeking alliance from foreign countries (Russia, England, France, Poland and other democratic nations), I pray and pray hatred and vengeance will not fill our hearts.

May our prayers be with our nation's leaders.
