11:45pm. I’m making a desperate attempt to take better care of myself. I’m trying to eat right, get more sleep, resume my jogging routine, and worry as little as possible. So far, it’s not working.
First of all, I read an article today indicating that 25% of the population don’t taste sweet flavors as intensely as everyone else, hence needing more to be satisfied. Those of us who suffer from this dreaded ailment are known to have a “sweet tooth” and a “silver mouth” (ie cavity fillings). It sucks. So today, I had two cups of coffee with two packs of Equal in each serving. I also had a bag of M&Ms and a chocolate chip cookie.
So much for trying to eat healthy.
Sleep more? I’m aiming for seven hours, but this is generally how it works: I go to bed at 3am and wake up at 7:30 in the morning. I’m fine in the mornings, but around 3 or 4pm, I start getting groggy. That’s when I need a quick fix with a cup of strong coffee or a can of diet coke. I’m slowly becoming a caffeine addict. I hear caffeine stunts your growth. Unfortunately, I didn't know this before my three inch growth spurt kicked in sophomore year of high school.
Once I leave the office, I get a sudden burst of energy that usually lasts into the wee hours of the night. It’s not a good thing, because then I end up getting only 3 or 4 hours of sleep. But even then, it`s a pretty restless state of REM because of these darn dreams I have. Lately, I’ve been contemplating drinking a glass of red wine each night to help me fall asleep, but then I may have to start frequenting another form of AA.
What about my jogging routine? This time last year, I used to run 3 to 5 miles at least 4 days a week. Now I’m lucky if I can manage one without collapsing. OMT and I walked around the neighborhood tonight, but I would hardly classify our casual stroll as cardiovascular exercise. It was just too darn hot and humid for anything strenuous.
And what about worrying? It`s a waste of time, but I do it anyway. Loss of hair and the occasional breakout are proof. Argh.
Well after a nice hot bath and a glass of cold milk, I’m ready to curl up with a good book and attempt to get seven hours of sleep tonight. But if you see me logged on at 3am, don’t mind me. I’m sleep-typing.
Goodnight ya’ll,
The "New and Improved" Rachel
